Digital Signage at CES 2011: HumanKiosk, ng Connect Program and Displays

Digital Signage solutions were also presented at CES 2011.

Mediatile HumanKiosk

Mediatile showcased its HumanKiosk solution, a digital signage system allowing face to face conversion (customer <-> representative) via 4G/LTE cellular networks at the Verizon Wireless and Alcatel Lucent booths.

HumanKiosk System Overview

This system allows potential customers to ask questions about a particular product or service to a (hopefully) knowledgeable person. In case of very specific knowledge (e.g. some banking products), the company providing the products can save money (no need to have such persons in all branches) and provide a better customer service. Here’s a demo below of the HumanKiosk.

ng Connect Program

Alcatel-Lucent made several announcements about its ng Connect Program and three features are aimed directly at digital signage / dooh applications:

  • Media Hotspot: Alcatel-Lucent, Atlantic Records and MediaTile developed a new jukebox concept that allows consumers to purchase their favorite music, movies and more via their mobile phone taking advantage of 4G/LTE or Wifi connectivity.
  • Gametime Media Table: Alcatel-Lucent, Brass Monkey and MediaTile created a network-connected table which allows customers to try before they buy to encourage purchases. At CES 2011, visitors were able to play Suzuki Kizashi™ Ring of Fire racing game using a smartphone as a controller.
  • Virtual Personal Stylist: Concept Developed by the ng Connect Program showing retailers and product manufacturers how they can leverage new high performance 4G/LTE networks to deliver real-time fashion and beauty advice to consumers via a 3D avatar in a store, at home or on-the-go from experts Like editors at ELLE, a fashion magazine. The companies involved are Alcatel-Lucent, HFMUS, Samsung, TelePresence Tech, [TC]2, Vidyo and VisionMax.

Digital Signage Displays

Mitsubishi Electric showcased its high contrast 155-inch Diamond Vision OLED display said to be ideal for commercial uses like in brightly-lit commercial facilities including train stations and airports.

Samsung exhibited its 14″ and 19″ AMOLED see through displays at CES 2011, ideal for some really creative vitrine displays, as you can see in my previous blog post about the subject.

MultiTouch Ltd displayed its recently-launched platform for large-scale multitouch LCD displays, MultiTaction which will enable display developers to create multi-user, multitouch displays for screens ranging from 32 to 100 inches and beyond. MultiTouch showcased a 55-inch full-HD demonstration display that is 8-inch deep, running the MultiTaction platform, at CES 2011. It runs a fully functioning multi-touch application built on Cornerstone C++/OpenGL SDK. It is also possible to connect several of those 55-inch displays to create a video wall and that’s what they did at CES 2011 as you can see in the video below (It ends after 55 seconds).
