The box will run either Windows 8.1 or Android. I’m a little confused to what “barebone” means for this type of mini PC because the DDR3 and eMMC chips are most probably soldered to the board, so a barebone model would simply be unusable. Or maybe my assumption is wrong, and you can insert SO-DIMM modules. On the video & audio front, Mele claims it can handle 4K UHD / 1080p videos and Live TV, VOD, XBMC, YouTube, Netflix… apps, as well as Dolby Digital and DTS.

  2. Are these the new Intel Atom SoCs manufactured by Rockchip?

Barebone must mean a SO-DIMM module slot, just as Mini-ITX PCs.

Does it come with IR-receiver and/or a optional remote control?

  3. Thank you for this wonderful news !
Finally very interesting prices for boxes Bay Trail, Mele did a very good gesture on price.
Strongly the test with reading several video formats !

I have a Onda V975w, which has a Z3735D. The bootloader is a standard UEFI x32 with the classic bios style configuration. I have gotten it to boot linux, but:
    1. The storage subsystem has issues (Gives out errors, I can’t remember if I was able to mount it)
    2. UEFI x32… practically noone makes images for UEFI x32, but I found a copy of grub from some fedora image that works as I was too lazy to build it.
    3. There’s a odd timing issue, which causes keyboard input (OTG+Hub) to go through different repeat rates in steps.
    4. The network chip is some obscure SDIO setup from realtek.
    5. Haven’t checked the rest.

I haven’t realy spent that much time on fiddling with it, but I’ll probably try again when 3.18 rc’s come out. YMMV when trying out linux on these things.

    1. Yep, it’s well known bug with eMMC, I’m guessing it probably will be resolved.
    2. Send a Bay-Trail tablet to a developer of your favorite distro and you’ll probably see such installation image.
    4. Obscure ??? it’s RTL8723BS which seems to be popular with such tablets as the Voyo devices, there is a report that it works with the RTL8723BS driver from https://github.com/hadess/rtl8723as , and there’s also a driver released by Amlogic but you’ll need to work a bit to get it compiled.

  6. Too bad it’s not based on the new Core M based on Broadwell die. They are supposed to run fanless and perform much better than this Atom Z3735D
