Embedded Linux Optimization Techniques – ELCE 2011

Benjamin Zores, Alcatel-Lucent, describes different optimization techniques (focusing on hardware choice and software architecture) that can be used to improve the performance of embedded linux at Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2011. Abstract: This presentation provides a series of techniques that can be used for Linux embedded systems fine-grain tuning and performances optimization. Embedded systems are, by definition, always limited in terms of resources while people keep on trying to use desktop-oriented software on top of it. This talk presents a series of tips that can be used to actually measure, find and isolate bottlenecks in your system, whether it is by complete system profiling or software architecture optimization. Focus is also made on the traditional caveats that need to be avoided for your system not to be slow by design. You can also download the presentation slides. Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2011

Embedded Linux Conference Europe (ELC-E 2011) will take place on October 26 – 28, 2011 at Clarion Congress Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic. The event will be co-located with LinuxCon Europe 2011 and GStreamer Conference. The day before the official opening of the conference, two tutorials will be offered on Tuesday 25th of October:b Outside the Box: An Introduction to Embedded Linux and Hardware Interfacing Using the Snowball Board – 9:00 – 17:00 – Trainer: Chris Simmonds – Cost: 350 USD. Embedded Android Workshop – 9:00 – 17:00 – Trainer: Karim Yaghmour- Cost: 300 USD. ELCE consists of 3 days of presentations, tutorials and sessions. There will be over 50 sessions during those 3 days. I’ll highlight a few sessions that I find particularly interesting. October 26 10:45 – 11:45 – Linaro’s Android Platform by Zach Pfeffer, Linaro Android Platform team leader. Linaro uses components from the Android Open Source […]

Digital Signage at CES 2011: HumanKiosk, ng Connect Program and Displays

Digital Signage solutions were also presented at CES 2011. Mediatile HumanKiosk Mediatile showcased its HumanKiosk solution, a digital signage system allowing face to face conversion (customer <-> representative) via 4G/LTE cellular networks at the Verizon Wireless and Alcatel Lucent booths. This system allows potential customers to ask questions about a particular product or service to a (hopefully) knowledgeable person. In case of very specific knowledge (e.g. some banking products), the company providing the products can save money (no need to have such persons in all branches) and provide a better customer service. Here’s a demo below of the HumanKiosk. ng Connect Program Alcatel-Lucent made several announcements about its ng Connect Program and three features are aimed directly at digital signage / dooh applications: Media Hotspot: Alcatel-Lucent, Atlantic Records and MediaTile developed a new jukebox concept that allows consumers to purchase their favorite music, movies and more via their mobile phone […]
