ISEE, the manufacturer of the IGEPv2 board, has recently announced 2 new industrial grade computers on module based on TI Sitara AM3703 Cortex A8 Processor:
- IGEP COM ELECTRON – AM3703 with 256 MB RAM / 512 MB Flash – 59 Euros
- IGEP COM SPIN – AM3703 with 64 MB RAM / 128 MB Flash – 49 Euros
Here are the specifications of IGEP COM ELECTRON module:
- CPU – Texas Instruments AM3703 @ 1GHz with L1 cache (112 KB (DSP) / 64 KB (ARM)) and L2 cache (96 KB (DSP), 256 KB (ARM))
- System Memory – 256 MB Mobile DDR @ 200 MHz (32-bit)
- 512 MB NAND FLASH
- On board micro-SD socket
- 1 x USB 2.0 OTG interface + USB mini-AB connector
- 1 x MICRO-SD socket
- 2 x EXPANSION 70-pin connector
- 1 x USB 2.0 HOST (connector NOT included)
- 1 x DOUBLE LED INDICATOR
- Expansion connectors – 2 x 70 pin (J1 and J4) and 2 x 27 pin (J5 and J7)
- Misc – Optional camera input interface connector.
- Power Supply:
- Via expansion connectors – 3.5 V to 4.2 V DC +-10%
- Via USB OTG connector – 5V DC through USB 2.0 OTG (only for standalone operation)
- Temperature Range – Industrial grade (-40 … +85C Deg)
IGEP COM SPIN is basically the same except it has less memory (64MB) & storage (128MB), and lacks the USB OTG port.
One interesting feature of IGEP COM ELECTRON is that beside being used as a computer-on-module connected to a baseboard, it can also be used standalone by simply powering it with USB cable (via the OTG port) and communicate by using Ethernet over USB gadget implemented in Linux kernel. This is probably only useful for testing purpose however.
The company also provides 3 carrier boards:
- IGEP Paris – Better used for Industrial Control Panel
- IGEP New York – Basic board to access pins via DIP style interfaces
- IGEP Berlin – Most complete board which access to all expansions. (See Picture on the right).
Those baseboards are compatible with the 2 new CoMs as well as earlier ISEE IGEP CoMs (e.g. Neutron).
ISEE provides a toolchain SDK and firmware based on the Yocto Project 1.2, as well as Virtual Machine SDK (uncompressed 7.8 GB download…) that works both in VMWare and VirtualBox, and a DSP Gstreamer framework, most (all?) of it appears to be shared with IGEPv2 board, so it should be pretty stable. The company also links to hardware and software reference manuals (but the hardware doc is not updated for the Electron COM just yet), getting started manual, and mechanical data (DXF, DWG and PDF formats).
