M1 3D Holographic Display is a Fan Showing Holograms from Videos and Photos

I’ve been watching or reading news about holographic displays recently where you can watch 3D objects into space without 3D glasses. Not the IoT gateway with an holographic maid, but I watched some hologram demos recently, and RED is bringing an (expensive) Android phone – called Hydrgen – to market with an holographic display.

Today, I was  made aware that you can buy some sort of fan to produce holograms designed in your own computer. It’s referred to “M1 Naked Eye 3D Holographic Advertising” in several shops, and as the name implies it’s likely mostly useful for businesses rather than home users.

Hardware specifications:

  • LEDs – 224x RGB0805 LEDs, 100,000 hours life
  • Display – 16.53″ with 450 x 224 pixel resolution; viewing angle: 150°
  • Supported media
    • mp4, avi, rmvb, mkv, gif, jpg, png
    • 3D effect media – MP4 or GIF with black background
  • Storage – micro SD slot for media
  • Power Supply – AC 100-240V 50/60Hz
  • Power Consumption – 10-15W
  • Dimensions – 43.3 x 10.8 x 10.8 cm
  • Weight – 716g

The fan is to be wall mounted, but they recommend an installation height of 3.5 meter or higher on safety ground, otherwise a protective cover is needed.

The “3D Holographic Display / fan” comes with a memory card, a card reader, a 2-buttons remote control, four screws, a wall mount bracket, a power adapter, and a user manual. The included micro SD card apparently comes with “Hologram Display” software for Windows XP/7/8/10 used to edit photos and videos to work with the holographic display. The video show some demos, as well as the Windows software.

If somehow you are interested in this kind of gizmo, it will cost you $376.00 on Cafago, $399.99 on Tomtop.com, or $367.67 and up on Aliexpress.

Something similar featured in a recent episode of BBC programme Click. They produced a life size image of a adult presenter. Not sure if caused by broadcast cameras or not, but you could see a swirling pattern on the end image. Best see image in real life before purchase maybe?

It doesn’t look 3D.
It looks like LED array that is put on bicycle wheel

I’ve seen quite a few designs like this over the years, one used a tall helix which sweeps out a cylinder when spun, and then you project a very rapidly changing image onto it and thus get a solid image.
