Ugoos AM6 Plus Android TV Box is Powered by Amlogic S922X-J Processor

When I wrote about the official launch of MINIX NEO U22-XJ media hub yesterday, I mentioned it was the first Amlogic S922XJ that I knew of and the first Amlogic TV box to support Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio.

But it was rightly pointed out to me that Amazon Fire TV Cube TV box already supported Dolby Vision with Amlogic S922Z processor that looks to be about the same as Amlogic S922XJ. Ugoos is now offering another Dolby Vision/Audio option with an upgrade to their existing Ugoos AM6 TV box replacing Amlogic S922X processor with S922X-J and increasing the memory and storage capacity.

Ugoos AM6 Plus Ports

Ugoos AM6 Plus runs Android 9.0 operating system with Google Play. The firmware appears to be shared with the one for AM6 TV box, so apart from the higher CPU frequency (2.2 GHz vs 1.8 GHz) and Dolby Vision & Dolby Audio support, the user experience will be similar.

Ugoos AM6 Plus can be purchased for $147.70 on Aliexpress with a standard IR remote control and power supply, but there are also bundles with an air mouse or a wireless keyboard. It should be noted that while Amlogic S922X-J supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio, Ugoos does not mention either on Aliexpress nor the product page.

  1. Ugoos are keeping busy,

” Beta Dual Boot Firmware v.0.2.8+ CoreElec for Ugoos AM6/AM6 Pro & X2/X3 Series ”

    IMPORTANT!
    – Please do not mix up with just additional boot from sd card, this is real dual boot firmware where you can switch the system using power menu.
    – This update will not come via OTA automatically. You need manually install this update in order to use it. Using release candidate firmware you still will be able to update your device via OTA, if you want to continue using automatic stable updates.
    – This is BETA release, so if you want the system update automatically, you need to wait Dual Boot build based on stable firmware.
    – So if you are totally ok with your current system and you are waiting for next stable firmware, you can pass this topic.
    – This dual boot version built on Release candidate firmware, so it may cause to some bugs appeared. You can help us to track bugs and issues of a current build, we appreciate your help. “

    1. I’m not 100% sure for S922X-J, but usually Amlogic part numbers that end with -B, -H, -J , etc… are all the same. They only differ by the supported licenses.

        1. Or maybe they massively overclocked it, noticing there’s quite some margin left, just like the RK3188 and RK3288 in similar boxes in their glory era.

  2. I have TV with Dolby Vision. Philips 55OLED934. The UGOOS AM6 PLUS is not playing the DOLBY Vision AV files correctly. The color palette is bad. I’m waiting for new firmware.
Important feature is support for YouTube VP9 profile 2 encoder. It works and the TV displays the HDR flag. To check on 8K HDR VIDEO or HDR-X.

  3. dolbyvision does this mean DRM/Netflix support ?
-if yes — the official netfix app or a modded version?
    Is the android 64bit?
Will there be android 10 upgrade futher support?
I do like the extrernal antennas, optical and usb3 ohh and coreelec support offcource

    1. DRM support up to Widevine L1 is possible, but Netflix HD/UHD support unlikely.
Not sure about the other questions. It’s not Android TV, so it depends on whether Amlogic provides a new SDK, and Ugoos ports it to their device.

      1. If it is anything like the s905x3 A95X F3 box the Dolby video and sound is impressive. Netflix and Amazon drm only allows mobile 480p. Youtube 4K playback.
Look on Youtube for review by tv box stop, the kast third has dolby vision and sound playback. So hear and see for yourself, no gess

        1. The A95X F3 most probably does not support Dolby Vision. It will still play it, but it won’t have the feature. It would not be possible to see in a YouTube video anyway since AFAIK YouTube does not support Dolby Vision.

          1. Hi JL

If you look up the video and watch it, you will see they used external amp etc to test.
Even my A95X F2 ( s905x2 ) has Dolby vision and sound. Also SDR to HDR and HDR to SDR.

Here is the link delete or leave it after you watched it.

          2. The video link you sent starts at the 29-minute mark but it shows a game. Anyway, Dolby Vision does not need an amplifier, but a compatible TV. Audio pass-through will work without a Dolby license for the TV box. The license only seems useful for applications doing Dolby TrueHD/Atmos processing on the TV box like downsampling to PCM or conversion to Dolby 5.1. Kodi can do this without the license, but I’m not sure how they get away with it.

          3. Starts at begining of video for me, anyway run video from 14:35 where testing streaming follows

          4. Ah OK. I think I watched part of the video yesterday. So when I clicked on your link it resumed at the last point I checked. I could not find any Dolby Vision video played in the video review. I can see some HDR10 videos, but there’s no way of knowing if HDR10 is supported from watching that video.
