reServer 2-bay multimedia NAS is equipped with an Intel Core Tiger Lake SBC

Seeed Studio has just introduced reServer dual-bay multimedia NAS based on Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Tiger Lake 11th generation processor. The networked storage device is based on ODYSSEY X86 V2 single board computer that offers an upgrade to the ODYSSEY-X86J4105 and ODYSSEY-X86J4125 Gemini Lake SBC’s.

reServer comes with up to to 64GB dual-channel memory, dual 2.5GbE, support for two 3.5-inch SATA drives, HDMI and DisplayPort video output, and some USB 3.0/2.0 ports.

Dual NAS Intel Core processor
The specifications can be a little confusing since they included the specifications for ODYSSEY x86 V2 SBC, some of which are not relevant for the NAS such as the microcontroller, eDP connector, and most internal headers.

reServer multimedia NAS ships with a 60W power adapter and power cord, two 2.4/5.0GHz WiFI antennas, a fan cable, a screwdriver, and a user manual. Seeed Studio does not mention anything about software support, and it will be up to the user to install Windows 10, Ubuntu 20.04, or other Linux distributions.

It’s quite a powerful processor for a NAS, and the company expects reServer to be used in applications for small office, home office servers, industrial automation, robotics, healthcare, smart agriculture. Right now, only the Core i3-1115G4 model is listed on Seeed Studio online store with either 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, or 8GB of RAM coupled with a 256GB SSD. But there’s no pricing, and instead, they ask people to fill a form to request pricing based on quantity. For reference, a few hours ago, the company sent an email listing the 8G RAM/256GB SSD version for $669, and the 16GB/512GB model for $769.

  1. What is this box for? It’s over powered (and hence over priced) for NAS and/or media server applications. And a $699 starting price? Nah.

    1. Had to cough up hundreds more $ for that extra DP and LAN port. Otherwise, we can get Deskmini X300 + 4350GE, underclock and undervolt it.

    2. It’d possibly make a nice compact dual-booting desktop, c.f. NUC.

I’m not sure why a ‘server’ needs triple video out.
