Aetina DeviceEdge Mini Edge AI computers support NVIDIA Jetson SO-DIMM modules

NVIDIA Jetson modules offer a wide range of AI performance starting from the entry-level 492 GFLOPS Jetson Nano module up to the 32 TOPS Jetson AGX Xavier platform.

That’s probably Aetina decided to offer its DeviceEdge Mini AI edge solution with either Jetson Xavier NX, Jetson Nano, or Jetson TX2 NX pin-compatible SO-DIMM modules designed for applications in smart transportation, factories, retail, healthcare, AIoT, robotics, etc…

The three models M1, M2, and M3 can all take the Jetson modules listed above, and come in a very similar form factor with the following key features:

  • Common features:
    • Storage – 128GB M.2 NVMe SSD (default)
    • Video Output – Micro HDMI 1.4 connector
    • Networking – Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port, optional WiFi/Bluetooth M.2 module
    • USB – 1x USB Type-C OTG only port
    • Expansion
      • 1x M.2 2242 M-key socket fitted with NVMe SSD
      • 1x M.2 2230 E-key socket for optional Wifi/BT function
      • 1x DB15 male connector with 5x GPIO, 1x UART, 1x I2C, 1x CAN bus (default support 3.3V)
    • Misc – AI button “A” on top of the system called “iTons” for one key recovery, system recovery button, reset button, two optional antenna connectors
    • Power Supply – 12V to 24V DC via 4-pin connector
    • Temperature Range – Operating: -20°C ~ +50°C; storage: -40°C ~ +85°C
    • Operating Humidity – 10% ~ 90%
  • Front I/Os differ for each model
    • M1 model
      • Connectivity – Ethernet RJ45 port with support for PD 802.3 at to connect one PoE camera
      • USB – 2x USB 3.2 Gen1
      • Misc – 1x Power button
    • M2 model
      • Connectivity – 2x Ethernet RJ45 port with support for PD 802.3 at to connect two PoE cameras
      • USB – 2x USB 3.2 Gen1
      • Misc – 1x Power button
    • M3 model
      • USB – 8x USB 3.2 Gen1 for up to eight cameras with compressed streams

Here’s a quick reminder to highlight the different features of the Jetson module compatible with Aetina mini PCs:

  • Jetson Nano – Quad-core Cortex-A57 @ 1.43GHz CPU with 128-core Maxwell GPU, 4GB LPDDR4, 16GB eMMC flash, up to 0.5 TOPS at 10W max
  • Jetson TX2 NX — Hex-core processor with 2x Denver and 4x Cortex-A57 cores with 256-core Pascal GPU, 4GB LPDDR4, 16GB eMMC flash, up to 1.33 TOPS at 15W
  • Jetson Xavier NX – Hexa-core ARMv8.2 Carmel CPU with 384-core Volta GPU, 48 tensor cores, 8GB LPDDR4, 16GB eMMC flash and up to 21 TOPS at 15W

All models run Ubuntu 18.04 and support EdgeEye device remote management platform monitor and manage the distributed edge devices, notably to check out status (online/offline), CPU load, memory/storage usage, location (if GPS enabled), system temperature, etc…

Aetina’s DeviceEdge Mini Series M1, M2, and M3 will be available in July 2021, but the product page also lists M4 and M5 models for respectively out-of-band (OOB) and 5G support respectively which should come later this year.
