Meet ESP-C3-M1 and ESP-C3-M1-I ultra small ESP32-C3 mini modules (Sponsored)

Half-year ago, Ai-Thinker launched new ESP32-C3 series modules that are fully pin-to-pin compatible with ESP8266, namely ESP-C3-12F, ESP-C3-32S, ESP-C3-01M, ESP-C3-13, ESP-C3-13U. After several months, the company got further requirements about the modules, notably in terms of size. So based on the demand, Ai-Thinker has now added the ESP-C3 mini series family starting with two modules: ESP32-C3-M1 and ESP-C3-M1-I measuring 16.6×13.2mm and 12.5×13.2mm respectively.

ESP-C3-mini

The ESP-C3 mini series modules are equipped with the Espressif Systems ESP32-C3 32-bit RISC-V MCU featuring 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi & Bluetooth LE 5 connectivity, as well as a wealth of peripherals including UART, I2C, I2S, infrared, PWM, general DMA controller, USB serial port/JTAG controller, temperature sensor and so on.

ESP-C3-M1 and ESP-C3-M1-ISome of the wonderful features of the new ESP-C3 mini modules include:

  • ESP32-C3 MCU – 32-bit RISC-V single-core processor up to 160 MHz, with 400 KB SRAM, 384 KB ROM, 8KB RTC SRAM
  • Storage – 4MB SPI flash by default
  • WiFi
    • WiFi 802.11b/g/n, 1T1R mode data rate up to 150Mbps
    • Integrated WiFi MAC/BB/RF/PA/LNA/Bluetooth
    • Support STA/AP/STA+AP mode and promiscuous mode
  • Bluetooth – BLE 5.0 with support for the following data rates: 125Kbps, 500Kbps, 1Mbps, 2Mbps
  • Peripherals – UART/GPIO/ADC/PWM/I2C/I2S/SPI interface, temperature sensor, pulse counter
  • Serial host interface
    • Serial port rate up to 5Mbps
    • AT commands set for control by external MCU
  • Low power – Multiple sleep modes, deep sleep current is less than 5uA
  • Package – SMD-61

The modules can be configured with the Smart Config app or AirKiss (WeChat) for Android and iOS, and support either local firmware upgrade through the serial interface or remote over the air (FOTA) upgrades. Just like other ESP platforms, the firmware can also be modified using the ESP-IDF framework and IDEs available for Windows and Linux.

ESP-C3-MI and ESP-C3-MI-I are small in size, yet rich in peripheral interfaces, and can be used in smart homes, industrial automation, and medical healthcare, consumer electronics, and other fields.

How is a response to this question interesting for anyone reading this article ? If you’re interested in sponsoring a post you probably ought to contact Jean-Luc directly. And if you’re not interested and were just badly curious, your question is irrelevant to this article.

These are just clones of the official espressif ESP32-C3-MINI-1 modules. How much cheaper are they?

You misunderstand something if you believe Ai-Thinker is a maker of some cheap Espressif clones.

I don’t know why they didn’t use the stamp form factor like ESP-12f. That way all the pins are on the edges which I can easily solder. Now the pins are under the chip and you will need a hot air gun or something.

I’m not sure, maybe the contacts are still available on the edge, look at the two modules on the left, they’re soldered like any ESP12 all around, so maybe the photos are cropped or the contacts a bit different.

You need the WROOM ones to hand solder. The MINIs need a reflow over. Espressif sells C3 WROOM modules.
