AAEON UP TWL and UP TWLS – Two credit card-sized, wide temperature Twin Lake SBCs

AAEON UP TWL and UP TWLS are two new credit card-sized single board computers (SBCs) based on the Intel Twin Lake processor family and operating in a wide -20°C to 70°C temperature range.

Both models feature a Gigabit Ethernet port, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and an HDMI video output. The UP TWL SBC also comes with a 40-pin GPIO header, and the processor is underneath the board. The UP TWLS board has a thinner design once cooling is taken into account, similar to the UP 710S released late last year, with the processor positioned on top of the PCB, wafers for GPIOs and RS232/RS422/RS485, and an M.2 socket for WiFi.

The UP TWLS SBC can be fanless at the standard temperature range, but the active cooler shown above is recommended for the industrial temperature range.

Both models offer lighter and more compact versions of the larger UP Squared TWL and Squared Pro TWL boards introduced last month.

Software and price

AAEON provides support for Windows 10/11, including Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS wth Linux 5.15 and greater, and Yocto 4.0/5.1.

Neither credit card-sized Twin Lake board is listed on AAEON’s eshop for now, but for reference, the earlier UP 710S with an Intel N97 CPU, 8GB RAM, and 64GB eMMC flash goes for $247. So the UP TWL and TWLS board should be sold in that price range, just a little higher with the N150. Additional details may be found on the respective product pages for the TWL and TWLS boards.
