Fairphone 6 modular design EU energy label
The Fairphone Gen. 6 has a modular design and is rated A on the new EU energy label for smartphones and tablets

Optional accessories include a protective case, a flipcase, a screen protector, a finger Loop, a card holder, and a lanyard. It ships with Android 15 by default with “Fairphone Moments” distraction-free mode that can be activated with the lime switch. Alternatively, a version of the Faiphone (Gen. 6) with /e/OS “deGoogled” Android OS can also be purchased instead (at a premium)

Compared to the Fairphone 5, the new Fairphone (Gen. 6) switched to a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset (vs QCM6490) with at least six Android upgrades from Android 15 onwards until at least 2033, offers a better camera system with two rear cameras, a Gorilla Glass 7i scratch-resistant display (vs Gorilla Glass 5), a lighter and thinner design, and lowest carong footprint yet for a Fairphone.

The Faiphone (Gen. 6) can be purchased in Europe for 599 Euros with Android 15 or 649 Euros with e/OS. People living outside of Europe can purchase the latter on the Murena website for $899. It’s not exactly the most cost-effective phone around, but I suppose that’s the cost of sustainability and repairability.

  1. Are you sure it’s USB 3.0? Specs say 2.0 and no DP alt mode (it seems to be confirmed on the forum). Big regression (FP 5 has it) and contradiction to the “future proof” claims, especially when Android 16 brings huge improvements to external display functions and Google seems to be dedicated to compete with DeX in 16+.

    1. But how long will it be before you have to buy yet another one? You’ve already used up the ‘up to four’ android version upgrades, so no more upgrades. How long till the security patches stop and you have to throw that s21 away?

      1. I think my S4 was shipped with android ~~5(?)~~ 4(!) and at the moment I run android 14 (lineageos) which is quite snappy for that 10(+) year old phone

        1. Not really fair to say you run lineageOS, in comparation with this. The avarage consumer does not do that and for them the longevity of software updates are important.

Basically you just said, for ME, it is not interesting because samsung s21 blabla. And sorry to say that, but who cares about why YOU wouldnt buy it.

The initiative of a fairphone is much more than repairability and software updates. They also care about the parts them selves and the manufacturing. The people who make them, the solder that is used, the nikkel, cobalt etc that is used etc. With the last phones you could even upgrade the camera at a later stage. What phone can do that??

If you don’t care about that, you just want the cheapest name brand then you be you but i don’t think it really matters to share that.

        2. Doesn’t look like lineage support the S4 or S21. S4 support ended with android 11 which is still pretty good for that age of device.

I’m sure you can find a firmware on the boards that some random person has built with a large list of known issues, but installing random binaries kinda negates it as a solution to lack of security updates.

I had an S4 Mini running lineage for a while but support stopped at android 7 for that one.

    2. How is the S20? They are sold for $50 used here and I wonder if it is an good upgrade for my s4 (running android 14).

I try to be fair and don’t buy new phones at all..

  2. Such a shame it still runs Android and so Google will still take all your data, photos, voice, fingerprints etc, and of course still track where you go, who your friends are, who you are with etc basically your entire life. If only the OS could be Open Sourced and properly de-googled (and by properly de-googled I mean not prebuilt binaries during boot etc.)

    1. It’s like you took your complaint straight from the fairfone marketing page

      “The Fairphone /e/OS (Gen. 6)
Our fairest phone ever. Fully “deGoogled” Android built on open-source tech. Your data, your choice.”
