Murata SMD TYPE IRS-D200ST00R1 is one of the world’s smallest PIR motion sensors at just 6 x 6 mm in size and with a 2.6 mm thickness. Its name implies, it’s a reflowable SMD component, which contributes to cutting manufacturing costs.
The pyroelectric infrared sensor interfaces to a host microcontroller through I2C and an interrupt pin. It enables wake-up and/or human detection in IP cameras, doorbells, thermostats, smart lighting systems, and various IoT devices.
Murata SMD TYPE IRS-D200ST00R1 specifications:
- 2x electrodes (2.0×0.5mm each)
- Responsivity – 19.5 mV0p typ.
- Field of View – X-axis=55°/Y-axis=42°
- Range – Depends on lens. Typically, 10 to 15 meters for an outdoor camera
- 8x solder pads
- Host interface – I2C
- Interrupt pin
- 2x TEST pins
- VDD, VSS (GND) pins
- Misc – “High signal-to-noise ratio, strong noise resistance”
- Supply Voltage – 1.8V to 3.3V
- Current Consumption – 8μA (@ 3.3V?)
- Dimensions – 6.0 x 6.0 x 2.6mm
- Temperature Range – Operating: -25 to 85°C; storage: -40 to 85°C

As with other PIR motion sensors, you’ll also need a separate lens with the Murata sensor. However, the company only says its IML/PPGI Fresnel lenses cannot be used with this product, and does not recommend any specific lens, and from the video embedded at the end of this post, I understand they’ll help you work with your selected lens…

The SMD TYPE IRS-D200ST00R1 sensors sell for $2.13 per unit in reels of 2000 pieces, and the sample price is $3.66 on Mouser. More information can be found on the product page and the ipXchange video interview embedded below. If you just want to watch a short demo, jump to the 5-minute mark.
