It’s not quite the first NXP i.MX 95 SMARC 2.1/2.2 system-on-module around, and alternatives to the Geniatech SoM include the Advantech AOM-5521, congatec conga-SM95, ADLINK LEC-IMX95, and iWave Systems iW-RainboW-G61M, among others.

The OSM Size-L module is soldered directly on the carrier board and should be more suitable for compact systems where reliability is critical. On the other hand, the SMARC module offers more options (including on-board Gigabit Ethernet PHYs and WiFi/Bluetooth module) and higher flexibility since it can be easily replaced or upgraded thanks to its 314-pin MXM edge connector.

The Geniatech SOM-iMX95-OSM joins other OSM Size-L modules powered by the NXP i.MX 95 SoC, such as the ADLINK OSM-IMX95 and Advantech AOM-2521.

Development tools, software, and availability

System-on-Module and Computer-on-Module companies will usually offer development kits/carrier boards for their modules, but Geniatech did not provide details apart from saying development kits are available and they have the ability to design custom carrier boards.

On the software front, each i.MX 95 module gets a board support BSP (BSP) with Yocto Linux, pre-verified drivers, and ready-to-run images. They are also supported by the eIQ machine learning software environment to leverage the built-in 2 TOPS eIQ Neutron NPU for vision analytics, predictive maintenance, and real-time data processing. Geniatech also highlights its “Energy Flex” architecture with a typical power consumption of just 3 – 8 W.

Geniatech did not provide pricing information, but we do know the SOM-iMX95-SMARC and SOM-iMX95-OSM modules were first unveiled at CES 2026, and sampling is scheduled for Q1 2026. More details can be found on the company’s system-on-modules page and in a recent press release.
