The BeagleBoard.org Foundation has just introduced the BeagleBadge featuring a 4.2-inch ePaper display and a Linux-capable Texas Instruments Sitara AML62L32 dual-core Cortex-A53 SoC.
It’s quite feature-rich for a badge, as it offers WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 LE, and LoRa/LoRaWAN connectivity, various motion and environmental sensors, a USB 2.0 host port, Mikrobus, Grove, and QWIIC expansion connectors, a 4-way joystick, a buzzer, and a range of buttons and LEDs.

On the software front, the badge supports Linux and Zephyr base ports with mainline roadmaps, leverages LVGL and MicroPython libraries for the interactive ePaper display, and includes an App store for programming examples. Off-grid messaging is implemented through Meshtastic and ActivityPub integrations.
What’s missing right now is documentation, since it’s an early/rushed announcement for Embedded World 2026, and the product page has limited details beyond the specifications at this stage. We’ll still find an “Armbian BeagleBadge demo for EW2026” image based on Debian Trixie and Linux 6.12 there, and a link to the GitLab repository where the hardware design files should eventually be released. As I was about to click Publish, I noticed that software documentation for the BeagleBoard can be found on the TI website instead of the BeagleBoard website.
The BeagleBadge can be pre-ordered for $99 on Seeed Studio and other distributors. Shipments are scheduled to start on May 15, 2026.

Does anyone have experience with recent epaper displays of this kind?
Here we have interactive pricetags in shops with buttons to change from price to ingredients or allergy info.
But those are so slow usually you will walk away before it switches because you are worried you broke it 😀
The used 4.2″ display can update in 0.5 – 1 s
