Nuvoton’s new NuMicro M3331 is a series of 32-bit Arm Cortex-M33 MCUs clocked at 180 MHz that integrate an ARGB LED controller, a DSP instruction set, a single-precision FPU, and TrustZone security for smart factories, renewable energy systems, and consumer devices.
In the past, we have written about other Cortex-M33 MCUs like the STM32U3B5/C5, Texas Instruments MSPM33C321A, Nordic Semi’s nRF54LM20A, and various others, but the Nuvoton M3331 series specifically features a built-in Enhanced LED Light Strip Interface (ELLSI) and up to 10 standard LLSI channels. This allows the MCU to natively support gaming ARGB Gen1 and Gen2 LED control protocols, completely offloading the CPU to run fluid, dynamic LED effects. It comes in two variants, the M3333 series and the M3334 series, with the latter adding a high-speed USB 2.0 OTG controller with an integrated PHY.

While going through the press release, the company referred to these MCUs as the “NuMicro M3331 series”. However, they mention the M3333 and M3334 series as subseries of the M3331 series, which is very confusing, to say the least…
The company provides NuMaker-M3333KI and NuMaker-M3334KI evaluation boards, both of which offer Arduino UNO-compatible extension headers with full-pin extension connectors. Additionally, they integrate the detachable Nu-Link2-Me module, which acts as an on-board debugger and programmer supporting an SWD interface, online/offline programming, and a virtual COM port. For power profiling, the boards include a dedicated ammeter connector for directly measuring the microcontroller’s power consumption. Both boards have the exact same features; the only differences are the MCU and the USB power/HS connector. The company also provides a Getting Started Guide on the product pages.
In terms of software support, the company provides a Board Support Package (BSP) and sample code compatible with major IDEs like Arm Keil MDK, IAR EWARM, and Visual Studio Code. The platform is also fully supported by mainstream real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, and RT-Thread, as well as GUI libraries such as emWin and LVGL.
The MCUs don’t seem to be up for sale just yet, or at least public pricing has not been provided, but the NuMaker-M3333KI and NuMaker-M3334KI evaluation boards are available to purchase for $30.00 each on the Nuvoton Direct eStore.
