VIA Labs VL610/VL610D MST Hub controllers to enable USB-C multi-display adapters with up to three 4K display outputs

VIA Labs VL610/VL610D MST (Multi-Stream Transport) Hub controllers are designed for multi-display expansion, enabling USB-C adapters to drive up to three 4K UHD high-resolution HDMI or DisplayPort displays simultaneously.

The chips succeed the VL605 single-channel USB-C to HDMI 2.1 signal converter. The VL610 supports three video outputs up to 4Kp60, while the VL610D is limited to two video outputs for different docking design needs.

VIA VL610/VL610D key features and specifications:

  • DSC 1.2a decoder for decompression to HDMI output or direct pass-through to compatible displays.

  • ECDSA-256 asymmetric authentication
  • Logo Bitmap display capability for brand logos, warning messages, or guidance screens
• Package – QFN100 (10x10mm) for VL610

There’s no product page yet, and VIA only published a press release for COMPUTEX 2026, and I also found an earlier presentation with the slide above. As I understand it, the VL610/VL610D chips are designed specifically for multiple-display DP 2.1 HBR3 MST Hubs, and USB data is limited to High Speed (480 Mbps), so they won’t be found in multi-function USB-C docks.
