Wireless-Tag ESP32P4C61-TINY board combines ESP32-P4 and ESP32-C61 SoCs (Crowdfunding)

Wireless-Tag has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the ESP32P4C61-TINY, a compact open-source AIoT development board based on their WT01P461-S1 module, which combines ESP32-P4 (general-purpose) and ESP32-C61 (wireless) RISC-V SoCs.

Like other ESP32-P4 boards, including the ESP32P4C5 Core Board, the M5Stack Stamp-P4, or ESP32-P4-Pi-VIEWE, this one also uses a separate SoC (ESP32-C61) for wireless connectivity. Additionally, it features built-in MIPI CSI and DSI for camera and display support, along with a microSD card slot for storage, making it suitable for AIoT and edge computing applications.

The company mentions the project is fully open source, but like most Kickstarter campaigns, no specific GitHub repository or detailed documentation is available, and it will likely be released once the campaign ends. So far, the page only provides a blurry schematic, and the board will most likely rely on Espressif’s standard ESP-IDF framework for development. All information should eventually show up on the company’s GitHub account and documentation website.

The ESP32-C61 is supposed to be a cost-down version of the ESP32-C6 without an 802.15.4 radio, a single RISC-V core, and less memory (320KB SRAM), but it’s unclear if the lower price is reflected in this specific board…

The ESP32P4C61-TINY board is live on Kickstarter as part of a kit, with the “Super Early Bird” tier priced at around $40, a 51% discount from the $81.50 MSRP. The package will include the board itself, a 2.8-inch MIPI display, a MIPI camera, an antenna, headers, and a USB-C cable. Other tiers include an “Early Bird” at ~$66 and a “Double Discount” offering two kits for ~$76.  The company states that shipping is expected to start in July 2026, and that taxes and shipping costs are extra.

    Well that’s not cheap. That’s a board + diplay + camera, but still.

    1. Come on val. Look at all the parts on that PCB, then add display, camera, cables, assembly & packaging. You will see its very cheap.

      1. No, even the early bird is not cheap. For $34.90 you get Sipeed Maixduino Kit for RISC-V AI + IoT, for $30.06 you get LILYGO T-Camera Plus S3, for $15.99 you get Waveshare PICO-CAM-A – all of them with a camera and display.

      2. I hear ya. But those companies are cracking them out by the thousands. A kickstarter is not doing that so prices are always going to be higher.

  2. It’s so hard for these boutique MCU boards to compete with SBCs these days, I think, and once the price goes over $15, I have to. MIPI ecosystem is very unattractive when we’re awash in USBC and HDMI consumer e-waste. You probably have at least two HDMI displays gathering dust you can imagine right now. At work, we had a big cage built out in the basement just to store our excess because we couldn’t be fussed to sell them. I can fuss with FPC connector on display for ants, or I can effortlessly connect to literal trash with near 6x the pixel count and 10x the display size on an SBC with such massive resources available (1GB of RAM! Decadent!) that I can come up with creative ways to waste them for fun; maybe we buffer sixty 24-bit 1080p frames at a time; why not? I love my ESP32s, but I almost never give them a full color display; at most, they get an I2C display with different-colored segments, because it’s a $1-2 chip, right — why would I invest 10x into a display? If I’m doing something “graphics heavy,” I’d use a SBC or a CYD.

    BUT, I like reading about these boards. I like seeing layouts and connectors which make the cut. I like seeing what people value, even if I’m not sure the people make sense to me.

    First, I’d like to apologize for the delay in the documentation. The P4C61 project moved forward rather quickly, and as a result, our documentation and supporting resources have taken longer to organize than we had hoped.
    We’re actively working on it, and all materials will be available before the product ships.
    One of the reasons for this accelerated release was to give our S31 Tiny series an earlier launch opportunity.
