We’ve just reviewed the GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition mini PC on Windows 11 after having checked out the hardware with an unboxing and a teardown in the first part of the review. We’ve now had time to review the AMD Ryzen 5 7545U mini PC on Linux using Ubuntu 26.04 distribution.
The Ubuntu 26.04 review includes feature testing, benchmarks, storage and networking (2.5GbE and WiFi 6) tests, and measurements of CPU temperature under stress, fan noise levels, and power consumption of the mini PC under various workloads.
Ubuntu 26.04 installation
We decided to install Ubuntu 26.04 alongside Windows 11 in dual boot configuration. To do so, we shrank the Windows (C:) partition to approximately half its size.
We then inserted a USB drive flashed with the Ubuntu 26.04 ISO and began the installation process by entering the BIOS and selecting the drive. From there, the installation went smoothly, and we got our machine up and running in just a few minutes.
GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition – Ubuntu 26.04 system information
Going to Settings -> About window shows we have a GEEKOM A7 computer powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 7545U with Radeon 740M Graphics, 16 GB of memory, and a 500.1 GB drive with Ubuntu 26.04 LTS 64-bit and Linux 7.0.0-22 kernel.

The utility detected an AMD Ryzen 5 7545 6-core/12-thread processor clocked at up to 4,979 MHz, an RTL8125 2.5GbE controller, a MEDIATEK MT7922 chipset for 802.11ax WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, a 465.76 GB Kingston drive with a 222.91 GB root partition, and a decent 46°C idle CPU temperature. The only oddity is the 12GB of RAM detected, which could be explained by 4GB of RAM used by the GPU, as we had seen in the Windows review, and can be confirmed with nvtop.

Looking at 7-Zip benchmark results, the system achieved 41,529 MIPS in the first run, 42,147 in the second, and 41,802 in the third, with an average of 41,830 MIPS. This points to stable performance and no obvious thermal throttling.
We checked the CPU power limits using RyzenAdj.

The limits are set as follows:
- Sustained Power Limit (STAPM LIMIT) – 25 Watts
- Actual Power Limit (PPT LIMIT FAST) – 40 Watts
- Average Power Limit (PPT LIMIT SLOW) – 35 Watts
The last two numbers match the PL1 and PL2 limits reported in Windows 11.
We’ll now check the single-core and multi-core performance of the AMD Ryzen 5 7545U CPU with Geekbench 6.7.1.
The computer got a single-core score of 2,475 points and a multi-core score of 8,043 points.
Let’s now test the GPU with Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0. The GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition computer achieved 682 points and rendered the benchmark scene at an average of 27.1 FPS at the standard 1920×1080 resolution.
Next, we tested YouTube 4K and 8K video playback in Firefox and Chrome.

In Firefox, 4K 30 FPS, 4K 60 FPS, and 8K 30 FPS videos could all be played smoothly with only a few dropped frames, but 8K 60 FPS was unwatchable, with 4,348 frames dropped out of 4,412. It’s the same result as on Windows 11.

The experience in Chrome was similar: 4K 30 FPS, 4K 60 FPS, and 8K 60 FPS were fine, and 8K 60 FPS was better than in Firefox, but still very choppy with 185 frames dropped out of 1013. Again, it was no different than in Windows 11.
Let’s now test web browsing with Speedometer 2.0 in Firefox. The system managed 259 runs per minute.

Since the Speedometer 2.0 is deprecated, we also ran the Speedometer 3.0 test for future reviews. Results: 18.9 points in Firefox.
GEEKOM A 7 2026 Edition Ubuntu 26.04 benchmarks comparison against other mini PCs
Now that we have Ubuntu 26.04 benchmark results for the GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition, we’ll compare the results against other mid-range mini PCs, namely the GEEKOM A5 Pro 2026 Edition (AMD Ryzen 5 7530U) and Beelink EQi13 Pro (Intel Core i5-13500H), as well as the GEEKOM A7 (AMD Ryzen 9 7840HS), since it shares the same name… They were tested with Ubuntu 24.04 or 25.10, instead of Ubuntu 26.04.
Let’s have a look at the basic specifications of the four systems first.

We can confirm that the GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition is a cost-down version of the GEEKOM A7 (2024), as should be expected since the new model features a Ryzen 5 7545U, and the old model a Ryzen 9 7840HS CPU. The A7 2026 Edition mini PC performs well against other mid-range computers, except for 3D graphics, and the Speedometer score is lower than we would have expected. We repeated the test another time, and got the same results, so it might be a Ubuntu 26.04 regression?
Storage and USB testing
We’ll use iozone3 to test the 500GB NVMe SSD that ships with the mini PC:

Performance is quite good with 4,596 MB/s sequential read speed, and 3,237 MB/s sequential write speed, which compares to 5,430 MB/s and 3,281 MB/s with CrystalDiskMark on Windows 11.
We also tested the USB ports on the mini PC with an ORICO M234C3-U4 M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure and the single USB 2.0 Type-A port with a Seagate USB HDD, as well as botctl, lsusb, and iozone utilities.

Everything works as advertised. As in Windows 11, the rear USB 3.2 port delivers slightly better performance than the front USB 3.2 ports, likely due to the USB Hub chip used.
Networking (2.5GbE and WiFi 6) performance
Time to test networking on the GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition mini PC, which offers 2.5Gbps Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) connectivity.
We’ll start with the 2.5GbE RJ45 port using the iperf3 utility and AAEON’s UP Xtreme i11 Edge mini PC on the other side.

Outstanding results: 1.39 Gbps download speed and 1.42 Gbps upload speed. We haven’t noticed the stability issue we encountered in Windows 11. We either got lucky, or the issue is with the Windows drivers.
We also quickly tested Bluetooth 5.4 by transferring a file to a Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G smartphone, and vice versa. No issue in either case.
Stress test and thermal performance
To evaluate thermal performance and potentially detect CPU throttling, we ran a stress test on all 12 threads while monitoring the CPU temperature (Tctl) with Psensor, and the CPU frequency and temperature with sbc-bench.
The AMD processor quickly reaches a stable state at around 3.8-3.9 GHz with a constant 90.0°C CPU temperature. Tjmax for the Ryzen 5 7545U is supposed to be 100°C, so there’s a small buffer of 10°C. There’s no collapse in terms of performance, so cooling looks adequate, even in a room at about 28-30°C.
Fan noise
The GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition mini PC operates fairly quietly, but the fan still generates some noise, especially under load. We measured the fan noise with a sound level meter placed around 5 centimeters from the top of the device:
- Idle – 38.2 – 38.6 dBA
- Stress test on all 12 threads – 47.7 – 48.1 dBA
For reference, the meter measures around 36.6 – 37.0 dBA in a quiet room. The results are similar to the GEEKOM A5 Pro 2026 Edition, and both are some of the quieter actively-cooled mini PCs we’ve tested.
Power consumption on Ubuntu 26.04
We finally measured the power consumption of the GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition running Linux with a wall power meter:
- Power off – 0.8 Watts
- Idle – 4.8 – 5.3 Watts
- Video playback – 23.0 – 29.1 Watts (YouTube 4K 60FPS in Firefox)
- CPU stress test (stress -c 12)
- First few seconds – 40 – 41 Watts
- Longer runs – 36.3 – 37.0 Watts
During the testing, the mini PC was connected to Wi-Fi 6, a USB RF dongle for a wireless keyboard and mouse combo, and a KTC A32Q8 4K monitor via one of the HDMI ports.
Conclusion
The GEEKOM A7 2026 Edition worked great on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, and we didn’t encounter any major issues. The NVMe SSD is fast, 2.5GbE and WiFi 6 network performance is excellent, YouTube video playback is smooth up to 4Kp60 or 8Kp30 (but 8Kp60 is unwatchable), and everything else we tested worked.
The cooling system appears to be well thought out, and we didn’t experience thermal throttling, while the fan itself is fairly quiet. Power consumption is also fairly low, and we could not reproduce the WiFi stability issue we had in Windows (the driver will stop working after several hours, requiring a reboot). The main downside is 3D graphics performance, which is on the low side, just like on Windows. Since it’s based on a hexa-core processor, it is also not quite as performant as similarly priced octa-core systems for multi-core workloads.
