Norik Systems introduces nRF9151-based USB Dongle for DECT NR+ deployments

Norik Systems has developed a compact USB dongle based on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF9151 SiP, mostly designed to work as a DECT NR+ child node or a USB-powered gateway.

As a reminder, DECT NR+ is a non-cellular 5G standard for long-range low-power applications that works at 1.9 GHz and supports up to one million nodes through mesh, star, and point-to-point topologies. The Norik USB dongle enables developers to easily add DECT NR+ to gateways or child modes.

The dongle plugs directly into a USB port and shows up as a serial device and debugger. It comes pre-flashed with console shell firmware that allows developers to discover networks, join or create private networks, perform link tests, and evaluate radio performance through a serial terminal.

You can also reprogram the dongle with your own application using the open-source examples included in the Zephyr-based Nordic nRF Connect SDK (Zephyr), while the integrated CMSIS-DAP debugger provides programming and debugging over USB without needing any external debug probe.  The product page (linked below) also provides a datasheet, an application development and flashing guide, and prebuilt firmware for nRF9151.

We’ve covered several nRF9151-based hardware platforms for LTE IoT and DECT NR+ connectivity, including the Makerdiary nRF9151 Connect Kit, emCraft SOM-NRF9151, Nordic’s own Thingy:91 X, and many others, but it’s the first time we’ve come across an nRF9151 USB dongle. LTE-M/NB-IoT connectivity from the nRF9151 is not supported because the USB dongle lacks an eSIM or SIM card slot.

Slovenia-based Norik Systems doesn’t offer a way to purchase the USB dongle online, but you can contact the company to request a quote and find more technical details on the product page.
