Raspberry Pi has just announced the “Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 – 10″ Portrait”, and we’ve received an early review sample for testing. The new 10.1-inch Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 is a multi-touch portrait panel for Raspberry Pi designed for interactive projects such as tablets, entertainment systems, and information dashboards.
The new 10.1-inch model follows the original 7-inch Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 launched in 2024 and the 5-inch Raspberry Pi Touch Displays 2 introduced in 2025. I reviewed the 7-inch model with the Raspberry Pi AI camera and a Pi 4, and I just gave away the 5-inch variant. In this short review, I’ll show how to mount a Raspberry Pi 5 to the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 – 10″ Portrait, install it on a VESA mount, and test features such as 10-pin capacitive touch and display orientation. But let’s start with the specifications first.

One important point is that the 10-inch Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 is only compatible with Raspberry Pi 5 and Raspberry Pi Compute Modules connected to a carrier board with an MIPI connector.
Unboxing
I received the display in a retail package reading “Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2” and “10” Portrait” with basic specifications and installation instructions on the bottom side.
The display ships with a power cable, an FPC cable, and eight M2.5 screws.

I was also given a Raspberry Pi 5 4GB for the review. The installation is pretty straightforward, since only two connections are required to connect the display to the Raspberry Pi: a power cable for the GPIO header and a ribbon cable for the DSI port.
The only potential mistake is inserting the cables in the wrong way. Once done, we can secure the Raspberry Pi 5 with four of the M2.5 screws, connect the FPC cable to one of the MIPI connectors, and the power cable to the 40-pin GPIO header.
Insert a microSD card with Raspberry Pi OS, connect a 5V/5.1A USB power adapter, and Raspberry Pi OS will boot in portrait mode with everything working out of the box, including ten-finger touch and the on-screen keyboard. More on that below.
3D printed VESA mount for the Raspberry Pi Touch 2 – 10″ Portrait
I usually use a wooden stand to test displays, but the 10.1-inch is a bit too big. I’m sure there will eventually be an enclosure for this model, like we’ve seen with the $10 Waveshare PI5-CASE-TD2 for the 7-inch model.
Since at the time of the review, no enclosure was provided/announced, I designed a VESA mount adapter for the 10.1-inch Raspberry Pi Touch 2 in Blender, and printed it with PLA filament (rainbow style, hence the colorful design).
I didn’t think everything through during the design, so I had to use a power drill to enlarge four of the holes to mount the display to the adapter. But I eventually got something working, and the old VESA stand I use can also rotate, which will be great to test landscape/portrait orientation.

The STL file can be found on GitHub, but I don’t recommend it unless you have a few 35mm M2.5 screws lying around…
Multi-touch, portrait/landscape mode, and on-screen keyboard
I also tested the advertised features, including 10-point capacitive touch using the WBBMTT website.
All ten points were detected, and tracking works smoothly when moving the fingers on the screen.
Raspberry Pi OS supports four orientation modes: Normal (default, in portrait mode), Left, Inverted, and Right. I tested Normal and Left (Landscape), and it worked well after I updated Raspberry Pi OS. Before the update, I had some issues when switching the orientation, as the display rotated but not the touchscreen, so I could not confirm the change.
Another important option is the touchscreen mode, for which there are two options:
- Mouse Emulation – Simulate a mouse: one tap converts to left click, long tap to right-click, and double tap to double-click. It’s better for app not made for touch screens.
- Multitouch – Multitouch support, similar to using a tablet
In previous touchscreen reviews, I had to change that manually by editing config files, but it’s now available right in the Control Centre.
While browsing the web in multitouch mode, you can scroll a web page, pinch and zoom, etc… like you would on a tablet. In Mouse Emulation mode, trying to scroll a web page will select the text instead.
If you select a text field, the soft keyboard will show up automatically. No need to install a keyboard manually like in the past.

Device is cute and price is attractive but bigger ones (13 inches and up) would be more interesting.
It doesn’t support the Pi 4—I’m devastated.
