GL.iNet Comet PoE

GL.iNet Comet PoE KVM over IP solution with 32GB eMMC flash launched for $109.99

GL.iNet Comet PoE (GL-RM1PE) is a new KVM over IP solution featuring a quad-core Correx-A53 SoC, support for Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), a 32GB eMMC flash, and the usual HDMI and USB ports. It’s essentially an upgrade to the Comet PoE (GL-RM1) KVM over IP box equipped with PoE and a 32GB eMMC flash capable of handling larger ISO files. It also relies on the faster Cortex-A53 processor used in the upcoming Comet Pro, currently on Kickstarter, with WiFi 6, a 2.2-inch touchscreen display, and HDMI passthrough. GL.iNet also claims faster file transfer (35 MB/s read & 25 MB/s write speeds) of about three times faster than the original Comet. Comet PoE specifications: SoC – Unnamed quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU (Potentially Rockchip RV1126B) System Memory – 1GB DDR3L Storage – 32GB eMMC flash Video & Audio Input – HDMI port up to 2K @ 60 FPS (2160 x 1440 @ 60 FPS); H.264 […]

Sipeed NanoKVM Pro

Sipeed NanoKVM Pro – A 4K IP-KVM with ATX and Desk versions, PiKVM/NanoKVM firmware support

The Sipeed NanoKVM Pro is a compact 4K IP-KVM with PiKVM/NanoKVM firmware support and is designed for BIOS-level remote management of servers and desktop PCs. It is primarily used in data centers, IT administration, and home labs for remote power cycling, system installation, and secure batch management. It comes in two variants, where the desk variant adds user-facing controls similar to the GL.iNet Comet Pro KVM over WiFi solution, and the ATX version is built for internal chassis or rack installation. Both modules come with 4K video capture with HDMI loopout, ultra-low 50–100 ms latency, USB keyboard/mouse emulation, GbE LAN, Wi-Fi 6, optional PoE, and 32GB eMMC storage with 1GB LPDDR4X RAM. Additionally, it features a customizable touchscreen, LED sync strip, multi-node batch management, and even AI-based smart assistant features. These features with NanoKVM & PiKVM support make it suitable for both simple PC use and demanding server environments. Sipeed […]

GL-RM1 Comet KVM review ATX power control board

Review of GL.iNet Comet (GL-RM1) KVM-over-IP solution and ATX power control board

GL.iNet sent me a Comet (GL-RM1) remote KVM box for review, along with a GL-ATXPC ATX Power Control Board. I’ll start this review with an unboxing and a teardown, then I’ll use the GL.iNet Comet with a Raspberry Pi 4 SBC to control it from a web browser in the LAN and the GLKVM app from the Internet. Finally, I’ll connect the GL-ATXPC and GL-RM1 to an Orion O6 mini-ITX motherboard to test ATX power control. GL.iNet Comet (GL-RM1) unboxing I received a parcel with two retail boxes: one for the GL-ATXPC ATX power control board and the other for the GL-RM1 Comet Remote KVM. The GL-RM1 ships with an HDMI cable, an Ethernet cable, a USB-A to USB-C cable for keyboard/mouse emulation, and a USB-C to USB-C cable for power, as well as a card with a QR code to connect with GL.iNet, and a getting started guide in […]

JetKVM

JetKVM – A $69 KVM over IP solution with open-source software

We’ve been writing about some low-cost KVM over IP solutions like the Sipeed NanoKVM Cube or GL.iNet Comet in recent times, but the JetKVM has been pointed out to me as another alternative with the benefit of having open-source software (which the NanoKVM also got last month). The JetKVM was launched for $69 on Kickstarter last fall and the crowdfunding campaign was amazingly successful with over 4 million dollars raised from just over 30,000 backers.  Key features include 1080p60 video with 30-60ms latency using H.264 encoding, mouse and keyboard emulation, remote management via JetKVM Cloud using WebRTC for accessing the devices from outside the LAN, and open-source software written in Golang on Linux. JetKVM specifications: SoC – Rockchip RV1106G3 CPU – Arm Cortex A7 @ 1.0GHz VPU – H264 & H265 hardware encoder Memory  – 256 MB DDR3L on-chip Storage – 16 GB eMMC flash Display – 1.69-inch IPS capacitive […]
