Jolla Sailfish OS Smartphone Is Now Officially Available

Jolla opened pre-order for the Jolla phone, the first phone based on Sailfish OS, in May this year, but the phone official launch took place yesterday in Finland with just 450 Jolla phones available out of the over 50,000 pre-orders. In May, Jolla hardware specifications were incomplete, but the company has recently released the full details, as you can see below. The First Jolla Phone Running SailFish OS is Now Available for Pre-order

After a teaser tweet in July 2012, Jolla officially announced Sailfish OS in November 2012, and today, they’ll announce the first Jolla Smartphone, which is available for pre-order. Key features of the Jolla smartphone: SoC – Dual core processor Storage – 16GB Flash + microSD Display – 4.5” Estrade display Camera – 8MP auto-focus rear camera Network – 4G Battery – User-replaceable battery The device will run gesture based Sailfish OS, and you’ll be able to run Android apps. Sailfish OS SDK Alpha Release Is Now Available for Linux

Sailfish OS is a new mobile operating system based on the Qt platform that will soon end-up in mobile phone near you. Until now it was possible to build the SDK yourself, but it was pretty challenging since the documentation was lacking, as Jolla, the company behind Sailfish OS, focused on development. The good news is that you don’t need to build the SDK yourself anymore, since Jolla has just released Sailfish SDK Alpha for Linux 32-bit & 64-bit, and Windows & Mac OS versions will come later.
