Qualcomm Dragonwing Mobile Broadband Multimedia (MBM) MBM715 and MBM 415 SoCs combine 5G, Wi-Fi, multimedia, and Edge AI

Qualcomm Dragonwing MBM715 & MBM415 Mobile Broadband Multimedia SoC

Qualcomm has introduced the Dragonwing Mobile Broadband Multimedia (MBM) family, a new lineup of 4-nm SoCs that integrate 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi, multimedia processing, and on-device AI into a single platform for “interactive broadband” devices. The family currently features the top-tier Dragonwing MBM715 and the lower-cost Dragonwing MBM415, designed for smart displays, retail kiosks, service terminals, and other connected devices that require both high-speed connectivity and local processing. Unlike mobile broadband (MBB) or fixed wireless access (FWA) platforms, the MBM series combines connectivity, display, camera, and AI into one chip, so no separate processor is needed. Qualcomm Dragonwing MBM715 & MBM415 Specifications: The MBM415 has no dedicated on-device Generative AI engine, but Qualcomm officially brands the MBM415’s modem-side processing as “Qualcomm AI-Enhanced Signal Boost.” It is not for generative AI, but it is an AI feature listed in the specs. Also note that the MBM715 supports CBRS (3.5 GHz), which is […]

Forlinx launches Rockchip RK3572 system-on-module (SoM) and development board with Linux 6.12 BSP

Rockchip RK3572 system-on-module

We noticed the Rockchip RK3572 mid-range HMI SoC a couple of months ago, and Forlinx has launched the first system-on-module (FET3572-C SoM) based on the processor, along with a development board (OK3572-C) and BSP (Board Support Package) with a fairly recent Linux 6.12 kernel. The octa-core Cortex-A73/A53 processor features a 4 TOPS NPU (the same as in the RK3588) and targets HMI applications leveraging Edge AI for consumer electronics, industrial control, edge computing, smart security, and in-vehicle terminals. Monitor live traffic from V2X signals with V2X2MAP open-source Android app and an ESP32-C5 development board

ESP32-C5 traffic monitoring V2X2MAP

Yesterday, I wrote about the OpenTrafficMap ESP32-C5 C-ITS receiver board to monitor and potentially optimize traffic using 802.11p / ITS-G5 V2X communication over 5.9 GHz WiFi 6, and map all detected nodes on the OpenTrafficMap website. Peter Holzhauser  (Pit711) forked the ESP32-C5 C-ITS receiver firmware to port it to the Waveshare ESP32-C5-WIFI6-KIT development board and added BLE streaming. He also designed the V2X2MAP open-source Android app to interface with the board (since 5GHz WiFi on phones can’t usually handle 802.11p), and a Windows installer to flash the firmware. While the ESP32-C5 C-ITS receiver board integrates an ESP32-C5-WROOM-1 module, a GPS module, and an Ethernet port with PoE, the V2X2MAP project leverages any recent Android smartphone with a USB OTG port and GPS, so you can simply connect most ESP32-C5 boards to monitor live traffic at proximity (a few hundred meters to several kilometers) on your phone including traffic lights, public […]

Huion Note E – A 8.4-inch Android 15 electronic notebook with battery-free, pressure sensitive stylus

Huion Note E Android 15 note taking device

Huion Note E is an Android 15 note-taking device/electronic notebook powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 SoC and equipped with an 8.4-inch color LCD designed to work with a battery-free PenTech 3.0 pressure-sensitive stylus. The device ships with 6GB LPDDR4 memory, 128GB storage, and a single USB-C port for charging and data. The company says the 1920×1080 display leverages “AG nano-etching technology to create a refined, matte surface that mimics the traditional pen-on-paper experience” and provides an e-Paper-like experience, while maintaining a 60 Hz refresh rate. PENOX WristBuds – A Bluetooth 6.0 smartwatch with integrated TWS earbuds (Crowdfunding)

WristBuds 2 in 1 Smartwatch with ENC Earbuds

PENOX WristBuds is a 2-in-1 rugged Bluetooth 6.0 smartwatch with integrated TWS earbuds, eliminating the need for a separate charging case. Designed for outdoor enthusiasts and the “zero-clutter mobility” market. Review of Rikomagic DS08 Android 13 digital signage player

Rikomagic DS08 review

Rikomagic has sent me a sample of their DS08 digital signage player for review. It’s based on a Rockchip RK3588 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB eMMC flash, and offers two HDMI 2.1 ports, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, as well as several USB ports, optical S/PDIF audio output, and more. I was initially not sure I could receive a sample, as Thailand is pretty strict with licenses for this type of hardware, but Rikomagic told us that it would not be a problem when using DDP (delivered duty paid), and the courier handles all paperwork. And indeed we did receive the parcel without issue. Since Rockchip RK3588 is now a mature platform, we won’t run benchmarks in this review, but instead go through an unboxing and a teardown, and focus on digital signage features such as video playback, RTC support, and display orientation […]
