Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 gets $40, 5-inch variant with 1280×720 resolution

Raspberry Pi introduced the 7-inch Touch Display 2 with 1280×720 resolution and a thinner design last November. The company has now introduced a 5-inch variant of the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 that sells for $40 instead of $60 for the 7-inch model. Besides the smaller dimensions, nothing much else changed, as the 5-inch Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 keeps the same 1280×720 resolution, 5-point multi-touch capacitive support, 24-bit RGB format, and so on. One difference is the viewing angle: 80° for the new 5-inch model, and 85° for the 7-inch variant. Developed by Fyde Innovations in collaboration with Radxa and Realtek, the XpressReal T3 is a Raspberry Pi Zero-like SBC built around the Realtek RTD1619B Arm Cortex-A55 SoC. It runs FydeOS/openFyde out of the box, and also supports Linux and Android, making it suitable for enterprise kiosks, digital signage, and multimedia applications. In the first part of the review, I had a look at the hardware of the NV8600-Nano AI developer Kit featuring an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano 8GB module, booted it to Ubuntu 22.04, checked some system information, and made sure both the USB camera and Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2 (MIPI CSI) module worked fine.

I’ve now spent much more time with the Edge AI devkit, and report my experience in the second part of the review with some benchmarks, key features testing, and AI vision demos using Network Optix Nx Meta IP video management platform with the provided USB camera and an ONVIF-capable network camera.

ArmSoM CM1 is a system-on-module/compute module powered by the industrial-grade Rockchip RK3506K tri-core Arm Cortex-A7 SoC, coupled with 256MB or 512MB DDR3L, 256MB or 512MB NAND flash, and exposing I/Os through 2.54mm pitch headers.
