The product we are reviewing today is the “MaTouch ESP32-S3 Rotary IPS Display with Touch 2.1” ST7701″ from Makerfabs which offers an alternative to the MaTouch_ESP32-S3 4-inch Display Demo Kit that we reviewed a few months ago. Just like the earlier model, the new kit is equipped with an ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8, featuring 16MB of flash memory and 8MB of PSRAM. This device supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless communication and offers connectivity options through I2C and UART ports for interfacing with external devices. The display features a round IPS panel with a resolution of 480×480 pixels, capacitive touch capability, and LVGL library support. Additionally, it includes a mechanical rotary encoder and supports press operations. SECO has unveiled a new HMI family of smart displays called the “Modular Vision” with NXP i.MX 93 (Arm), NXP i.MX 8M (Arm), or Intel Elkhart Lake (x86) powered SMARC 2.1-compliant system-on-modules and a display size ranging from 7-inch up to 15.6-inch. The Arduino GIGA Display Shield is a 3.97-inch RGB touchscreen display designed for the Arduino GIGA R1 WiFi board introduced a few months ago with an STM32H7 dual-core Cortex-M7/M4 microcontroller and a Murata 1DX module for WiFi 4 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. Besides featuring an 800×480 touchscreen display, the new shield offers some other features such as an MP34DT06JTR digital microphone, a Bosch BMI270 six-axis IMU, a 20-pin Arducam camera connector, and an RGB LED. Back in March, Rockchip showcased some tablets powered by the new 2.0 GHz Rockchip RK3562 quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, and now commercial Android 13 tablets based on the SoC are starting to show up with models such as BMAX MaxPad I9 PLUS and UMIDIGI G1. Both tablets have pretty much the same specifications with a 10.1-inch IPS display with 1280×800 resolution, 8GB RAM, 64GB eMMC flash, front-facing and rear cameras, and a few ports such as USB-C and an audio jack. UBPorts has just released Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-2 based on Ubuntu 20.04 with three new phones supported namely the Fairphone 3, the Volla Phone X23, and F(x)tec Pro1 X with the latter being introduced in 2020 in a crowdfunding campaign claiming Ubuntu Touch support. Ubuntu Touch was initially an initiative by Canonical for desktop/mobile convergence, but when the company decided to refocus its efforts on cloud and IoT, the UBPorts community took over and eventually outed the first stable Ubuntu Touch release in June 2017.
