Firefly EC-AGXOrin is an NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin 64GB-powered AI inference system, similar to the AAEON BOXER-8645AI and Vecow RAC-1000 rugged Edge AI systems, and designed for edge AI applications such as in-vehicle computing, robotic control, machine vision, intelligent video analytics, and mobile robots. The device features eight GMSL2 connectors (input via two 4-pin Mini FAKRA interfaces) and supports up to 22-channel 1080p or 8K, 30fps H.265 video decoding. It delivers 275 TOPS of AI performance through the NVIDIA module, and integrates 64GB LPDDR5 RAM, 64GB eMMC storage, and offers M.2 NVMe and MicroSD card storage options. NVIDIA introduced the DGX Spark desktop solution for AI development and prototyping, delivering up to 1000 TOPS (FP4) of AI performance a few months ago. The company has now unveiled the Jetson AGX Thor Developer Kit, which looks similar at first, but it’s designed for edge AI and robotics with I/Os for cameras and sensors. The Jetson AGX Thor Developer Kit is equipped with a Jetson T5000 system-on-module with 2070 TOPS (FP4) of AI performance and high-bandwidth 128GB LPDDR5x memory, which delivers over 7.5x higher AI compute than the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin, and 3.5x better energy efficiency. AAEON NV8600-Nano AI Developer Kit Review – Part 2: Benchmarks, features testing, AI demos with Nx Meta

In the first part of the review, I had a look at the hardware of the NV8600-Nano AI developer Kit featuring an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano 8GB module, booted it to Ubuntu 22.04, checked some system information, and made sure both the USB camera and Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2 (MIPI CSI) module worked fine.

I’ve now spent much more time with the Edge AI devkit, and report my experience in the second part of the review with some benchmarks, key features testing, and AI vision demos using Network Optix Nx Meta IP video management platform with the provided USB camera and an ONVIF-capable network camera.
