Huawei HarmonyOS Tablet - MatePad Pro 10.8

HarmonyOS launched on Huawei MatePad tablets, Watch 3 smartwatches

Huawei plans for an Android alternative called HongMeng (鸿蒙) OS were leaked in 2019 following tensions with the US government that prevented them from working with American and other companies around the world. The operating system was later called HarmonyOS for the overseas markets, and Huawei released HarmonyOS 2.0 beta in September of last year, where we learned it was heavily inspired by Android, replacing Google GMS with Huawei’s own HMS, but using the same development tools. We also got a roadmap at the time with the company planning to launch HarmonyOS devices in 2021. Developers first got the HiSpark WiFi IoT RISC-V development board to play with the new OS in October 2020, but now the company has finally announced HarmonyOS consumer devices with three Huawei MatePad tablets, and two Huawei 3 watches. Huawei MatePad HamornyOS tablets Three models have been introduced with a mix of Kirin and Snapdragon […]

PhaseLatch Mini modular Software Defined Radio platform

PhaseLatch Mini – An STM32-based low-cost SDR digitizer with two 12-bit ADCs, 210 kS/s USB streaming

PhaseLatch Mini is a low-cost STM32-based SDR digitizer for the previously released Phase Loom (tuner aboard), built in a Blue Pill–style form factor for HF, FM, and VHF experimentation. The board uses two 12-bit ADCs that sample I and Q at the same time, combine both readings into a 32-bit data word, and send the data over USB at about 210,000 I/Q sample pairs per second using just the standard USB CDC interface. It includes SMA inputs, a built-in ~100 kHz low-pass filter network, USB-C connectivity, ferrite-filtered power, and dedicated 8 MHz/32.768 kHz crystals for stable timing. Other features of the board include dynamic timer tuning, circular DMA, ISR-driven packet chaining, and a lock-free USB feed path to maintain high-rate streaming. PhaseLatch Mini specifications: Microcontroller – ST STM32F103C8 Arm Cortex-M3 @ 72 MHz USB Interface – USB-C 2.0 (Full-Speed) port; CDC class; RAW vendor class planned ADC subsystem Dual simultaneous […]

Destore Citronics Fairphone 2 industrial gateway

Citronics built a router based on the Fairphone 2 mainboard

Belgium-company Citronics has designed a router based on the mainboard of the Fairphone 2 smartphone, connecting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 “system-on-module” to a carrier board with Ethernet, USB ports, and other connectors, while leveraging 4G LTE, WiFi, and Bluetooth connectivity from the phone’s core board. Citronics calls this type of hardware “Circular Microcomputers,” which refers to small computers focusing on sustainability and circular economy principles using parts from discarded devices like old smartphones. There’s actually more than one router, as Citronics designed its own development kit, and also partnered with other companies to design custom gateways based on the Fairphone 2 mainboard. Let’s have a look at the devkit first. Citronics devkit: Fairphone 2 mainboard SoC – Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AB) quad core Krait 400 processor @ up to 2.26 GHz with Adreno 330 GPU System Memory – 2 GB LPDDR3 Storage – 32GB eMMC flash Connectivity – 2G/3G/4G LTE, […]
