RAKwireless WisMesh Pi HAT RAK6421 meshtasticd HAT for Raspberry Pi

RAKwireless WisMesh Pi HAT RAK6421 turns your Raspberry Pi 4/5 into a modular Meshtastic gateway

RAKwireless WisMesh Pi HAT RAK6421 is a modular Meshtastic gateway expansion board for Raspberry Pi 4/5 that adds support for the company’s WisBlock ecosystem. Designed for users running meshtasticd (the Linux-native Meshtastic service), it enables scalable, always-on Meshtastic base stations, MQTT gateways, and backbone relay nodes. Unlike other LoRa solutions based on Raspberry Pi, the RAK6421 takes a modular approach. Instead of a built-in radio, it offers two WisBlock IO slots and four sensor slots, allowing users to easily plug in or swap modules. This means you can choose between standard LoRa modules like the RAK13300 or higher-power 1W versions like the RAK13302, without dealing with messy USB adapters or breadboard wiring. RAK6421 WisMesh Pi HAT RAK6421 specifications: Compatibility Raspberry Pi 4, Raspberry Pi 5, and Raspberry Pi Zero 2W SBCs Potentially other SBC with standard 40-pin Raspberry Pi GPIO header (HAT+ compliant) Expansion 2x WisBlock IO slots for LoRa radio […]

FalCAN Probe v0

FalCAN Probe is an open-source, STM32-based USB to CAN/RS-485/RS-422 adapter

Most USB-to-bus adapters, including tools like CANTact Pro or MeatPi’s Ollie V1 and V2, typically support either CAN or RS-485/RS-422 as fixed-function serial devices. In contrast, the FalCAN Probe by Anders B. Nielsen is a multi-protocol USB adapter based on the STM32F042 microcontroller. The FalCAN Probe is a compact open-source USB Type-C board that connects a computer to CAN, RS-485, and full-duplex RS-422 networks. Instead of using a fixed USB bridge, it exposes the MCU’s native USB interface along with SWD and GPIOs, and can also be used as a small Arm Cortex-M0 development platform. FalCAN Probe specifications: MCU – STMicro STM32F042C6Tx Arm Cortex-M0 microcontroller @ 48 MHz with 32KB flash, 6KB SRAM Host Interface – USB 2.0 Full Speed via USB Type-C port Interfaces (non-isolated) CAN bus via Texas Instruments SN65HVD230 transceiver; enumerates as a GS_USB CAN device when jumper JP4 is open RS485 and full-duplex RS422 via dual […]

Firefly CQ38W 1126B and CQ38W 3576 AI smart security cameras

IP67-rated AI security camera feature Rockchip RV1126B or RK3576/J/M SoC for commercial, industrial, and automotive applications

Back in January 2024, Firefly released the CT36L AI smart security cameras, built around the Rockchip RV1106G2 SoC with a 0.5 TOPS NPU and Power over Ethernet (PoE) support. Now, Firefly has introduced two new AI cameras, the CQ38W-1126B and CQ38W-3576, which use a similar IP67-rated enclosure but come with much more powerful processors. Both new models no longer support PoE and instead use a 12V DC input, and they also add an RS485 interface. In terms of performance, the CQ38W-1126B is built around the Rockchip RV1126B with a 3 TOPS NPU and can run small multimodal AI models. The higher-end CQ38W-3576 features an octa-core Rockchip RK3576 with a 6 TOPS NPU, making it suitable for more demanding AI workloads, including YOLO and large language models. Both cameras are available with 3MP or 5MP sensors and come in Commercial or Industrial (J-suffix) variants. The 3576 series also adds an Automotive-grade […]

RainbowLink v2 USB-to-serial converter

RainbowLink-V2 compact USB-to-serial converter features 12V output, dual TTL, isolated RS-485 and RS-232 interfaces

DFRobot’s RainbowLink-V2 USB-to-serial converter features four independent channels, namely one isolated RS-485, one isolated RS-232, and two TTL interfaces usable simultaneously. The compact tool also converts 5V provided from the host’s USB interface to 12V/800mA, 5V/2A, and 3.3V/200mA outputs, eliminating the need for a separate power adapter. RainbowLink-V2 (TEL0190) specifications: USB – 1x USB Type-C port for power and adata Serial 2x TTL (3.3V) via headers 1x fully isolated RS485 channel via lever terminal 1x fully isolated RS232 channel via lever terminal Baud Rate – 2400 to 128000 bps Misc 3x Power LEDs for 3.3V, 5V, and 12V 4x Link LEDs for TTL 1/2, RS232, and RS485 12AWG – 22AWG wires supported on lever-type spring terminals Built-in short-circuit protection and overcurrent protection (but users are still recommended to avoid short-circuiting to prevent damage) Input voltage – 5V via USB-C port Output voltage 3.3V up to 200mA via header 5V up […]

Industrial RS485 Modbus HAT for Raspberry Pi

Industrial RS-485/Modbus Raspberry Pi HAT works with OpenPLC, supports 7V-32V DC input

We have previously written about various industrial Raspberry Pi systems and gateways that come with RS-485 built in, but we had yet to cover a dedicated RS-485 Raspberry Pi HAT. To fill this gap, EngineElectronicAccessories, a developer based in Sweden, has introduced the “Industrial RS485 / Modbus HAT” designed for industrial automation, monitoring, and the OpenPLC open-source PLC suite. The board features an onboard RS-485 transceiver with TVS diode protection and supports long-distance communication over the RS-485 standard. It uses the Pi’s hardware UART interface and includes Tx/Rx LEDs for diagnostics. The board also accepts 7V to 32V DC input, so you can power both the HAT and the Raspberry Pi directly from a standard 24V rail, eliminating the need for a separate USB power supply in a control cabinet. Industrial RS-485/ Modbus HAT specifications: Compatibility – All Raspberry Pi boards with 40-pin GPIO header (Pi 3, Pi 4, Pi […]
