Chart confirms higher level of Raspberry Pi restocks

Raspberry Pi Restocks

Earlier this month, we noted that Raspberry Pi supplies were improving mostly from tweets from Eben Upton who provided data about shipped boards since the beginning of the year. But there are also third-party data that confirm this since RPILocator provides statistics for restocks of Raspberry Pi hardware from approved resellers. The chart below shows weekly data of restocks since January 2022 until today, and we can clearly see a jump in restocks in recent weeks, especially for the Raspberry Pi 4, so there’s no need to steal old boards from discarded scooters anymore 😉 The ramp-up really started on week 25 (June 19-25) and peaked on week 28 (July 10-16) possibly to fill back orders, and restocks have been going down in recent weeks but still at a higher level than previously. While the improvement is mostly visible for the Pi 4, the Raspberry Pi 3 and Raspberry Pi […]

Radxa ROCK 5B SBC goes fanless with metal case

Fanless Radxa ROCK 5B metal case

The Radxa ROCK 5B was one of the first Rockchip RK3588 SBCs, and when we reviewed the developer edition of the board in July 2022 it came with an heatsink and 5V fan that was always on. That’s probably fine for testing, but many people will prefer a fanless solution. It turns out a metal case turning the ROCK 5B SBC into a fanless device has been available since the end of last year, but I’ve only come across it today. The black part is made of metal and the front and back plates are made of green plastic. As with all cases, there are always questions about compatibility with accessories, and for metal cases in particular, whether it’s actually used to cool the processor. Since it’s been around for many months, other users have already tested it out including Radxa forum’s user Deadmeat user who confirmed the SSD and […]

Raspberry Pi supplies are improving, but trust may be hard to rebuild with makers

Raspberry Pi CM4 stock August 1

Last December, Eben Upon provided an update about Raspberry Pi availability and expected “unlimited supplied” by H2 2023. Nine months later, Raspberry Pi supplies have indeed improved a lot. Still, some makers with small-volume production have already moved on, and are using alternative solutions. This seems especially true for products based on Raspberry Pi CM4 modules. Tom’s Hardware has just had a fresh look at the Raspberry Pi supply situation, and based on Eben’s tweets noted an increased number of Raspberry Pi boards had shipped in 2023. Eben said June was the second-best month ever for Raspberry Pi Trading with 788,000 units sold, and July looks to breach if the one million units a month is reached, beating the March 2021 records of 814k units. He further expanded saying 119k Zero boards, of which 33k Zero 2 boards (almost entirely consumer), and estimated around 250-400ku went to the retail market. […]

Liontron Rockchip RK3588 motherboard ships with 32GB RAM for $352

RK3588 motherboard 32GB RAM

We recently noted Firefly had started selling their Rockchip RK3588(S) boards with 32GB RAM, but pricing starts at $469, so lower cost options may be worth a look at, and Liontron sells a Rockchip RK3588 motherboard with 32GB RAM for $352 including shipping (note: it’s a brand new shop started in June 2023). The single board computer also comes with up to 128GB eMMC flash, SATA storage support, HDMI 2.1 video output, three LCD interfaces, dual Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0, and more. All that is offered in a low-profile motherboard that’s only marginally thicker (14mm vs 11mm) than the RWA027-RK3588 SBC we covered earlier this week. Liontron RK3588 motherboard specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3588 CPU -Octa-core processor with 4x Cortex-A76 cores @ up to 2.4 GHz, 4x Cortex-A55 cores @ 1.8 GHz GPU – Arm Mali-G610 MP4 quad-core GPU with OpenGL ES3.2 / OpenCL 2.2 / Vulkan […]
