At Embedded World 2026 in Germany, EDATEC launched the ED-AIC1000, a compact industrial AI camera built around the Raspberry Pi CM0 and designed for machine vision and industrial automation applications, such as quality inspection, object detection, and production-line monitoring. It integrates a 1.3 MP global-shutter camera with a sampling rate of up to 120 FPS, along with motorized autofocus M12 lenses, and three independently configurable lighting zones for reliable imaging. The MCUs are manufactured using ST’s 40 nm flash process, clocked at up to 144 MHz, and feature 128 KB to 1 MB of flash and up to 256 KB of SRAM, with a dynamic power consumption of <80 µA/MHz. Polish embedded systems company Grinn has recently introduced ReneSOM-V2H, a tiny vision AI SoM built around the Renesas RZ/V2H vision AI processor. Measuring just 42.6 x 37 mm, Grinn claims it is the world’s smallest module based on this specific Renesas MPU, and targets space-constrained Edge AI applications such as smart cameras, robotics, and industrial automation. The RZ/V2H SoC features a heterogeneous architecture with 4x Cortex-A55 cores, 2x Cortex-R8 cores, and 1x Cortex-M33 core, along with a DRP-AI3 accelerator with up to 8 TOPS. Back in 2024, Renesas first released the RA0E1, an ultra-low-power Cortex-M23 MCU designed for cost-sensitive applications, followed by the RA0E2, with extended temperature range support (-40°C to +125°C). The company has expanded its lineup with the RA0E3, a stripped-down version of the RA0E1 with less memory, fewer peripherals, and fewer GPIOs, designed for small and budget-focused applications for sensing, motor assist, safety, and basic system control. The MCU retains the same 32 MHz Arm Cortex-M23 (Armv8-M) core but now comes with 16KB flash and 2KB SRAM.
