Aaeon AIOT-X1000 Linux Gateway is Powered by an Intel Quark SoC

Intel Quark SoC for low power embedded devices has been seen on platforms designed by Intel themselves, such as Intel Galileo board or Edison wearable development kit, but I had not found Quark SoC in actual products until Aaeon announced their AIOT-X1000 gateway for the internet of things running Linux on an Intel Quark X1000 SoC, and working with a Cloud Service by Asus, Aaeon’s parent company. The solution targets manufacturing, transportation, and energy applications. Aaeon Announces CoMs, 3.5″ & mini ITX Embedded Boards Powered by Intel Bay Trail Processors

AAEON has announced the release three embedded boards and modules based on Intel Celeron J1900, N2930, N2807 and Atom E3800 series processors, which are all part of Intel’s low power Bay Trail family. EMB-BT1 is s mini-ITX board powered by Intel Atom 3825 or 3845, Gene-BT05 is a 3.5″ industrial board also based on Atom 3815/3815 or Celeron N2930 processors, and COM-BT is a series of COM Express type 6 computers-on-module. AMD announced their G-Series SoC combining CPU, GPU and chipset in a single chip nearly a year ago, but AAEON EMB-KB1 is the first mini-ITX board I’ve ever heard of using these embedded SoCs. Boston Viridis 2.0 and AAEON CRS-200S-2R ARM Based Servers Powered by Calxeda Quad core Cortex A15 SoC

Calxeda unveiled its new ECX-2000 Server-on-a-Chip (SoC) at ARM Techcon 2013. Calxeda new chipset features 4 cortex A15 cores, support up to 16GB RAM, and thanks to the move from Cortex A9 to Cortex A15 supports hardware virtualization. I’ve stumbled across two new servers powered by ECX-2000: Boston Viridis 2.0 and AAEON-CRS-200S-2R. Let’s have a look Boston Viridis 2.0 The successor of Boston Viridis powered by Calxeda ECX-1000 quad core Cortex A9 SoC, Viridis 2.0 features six ECX-2000 cards, with each card hosting two four-core SoCs @ 1.8GHz, and consuming as little as 6 watts of power. The server runs Ubuntu 13.10 operating systems, and OpenStack Havana platform, and would typically be used for cloud computing, distributed storage, and virtualization. Calxeda Showcases Aaeon and Foxconn ARM Servers at Computex 2013

ARM started to get involved in servers in 2011 with the announcements of Calxeda Energy Core, Marvell, and Applied Micro X-Gene Servers-on-a-Chip, and in 2012, products made by companies such as HP and Mitac  started to appears. We’ve got to see some more ARM based servers this year thanks to Charbax, who filmed some Aaeon and Foxconn servers powered by Calxeda EnergyCore quad core ARM Cortex A9 SoC at Computex 2013.
