A 6-Part BeagleBone Webinar for Users, Developers and Education Starts on May 10

BeagleBone-Webinar

The BeagleBone Black and derivatives like PocketBeagle or BeagleBone Green Wireless are still popular development boards, and if you are interested in the platform as a developer, user, or educator, you may learn more about the boards and how to use them in an upcoming BeagleBone webinar series presented by Jason Kridner, the co-founder and board member at BeagleBoard.org Foundation,  and element14. The webinar series will start in about 2 weeks with the following schedule: Introduction to BeagleBone –  10th May 2018 @ 11:00 AM (CDT)/17:00 (GMT) BeagleBone for Linux Users – 24th May 2018 @ 11:00 AM (CDT)/17:00 (GMT) BeagleBone for Embedded Developers – 6th June 2018 @ 11:00 AM (CDT)/17:00 (GMT) BeagleBone for Web Developers – 21th June  2018  @ 11:00 AM (CDT)/17:00 (GMT) BeagleBone Blue for Robotics – 12th July 2018 @ 11:00 AM (CDT)/17:00 (GMT) BeagleBone in the Classroom – 26th July 2018  @ 11:00 AM […]

BeagleBone Black Industrial 4G is Red, and Offers an Extended Temperature Range

BeagleBone Black is a great little board for hobbyists with plenty of I/Os, and decent software support, but the development board has not been designed to be used in low or high temperatures as found in some industrial settings, so Element14 has designed BeagleBone Black Industrial 4G with the same specifications as BeagleBone Black Rev C, but a red PCB, support for an extended temperature range between -20 and +85°C, and additional board protection with a conformal coating. BeagleBone Black Industrial 4G Specifications: SoC – Texas Instruments Sitara AM3358BZCZA10 Cortex A8 @ 1 GHz + PowerVR SGX530 GPU System Memory – 512 MB DDR3L @ 800 MHz Storage – 4GB eMMC + micro SD slot Video Out/Display I/F – HDMI and LCD interfaces Connectivity – 10/100M Ethernet (RJ45) Serial Port – UART0 access via 6 pin 3.3V TTL Header. Header is populated USB – USB 2.0 Client port: Access to […]

Element14 and Raspberry Pi Trading Launch a Raspberry Pi Customization Service

While the Raspberry Pi Foundation is the main face of the Raspberry Pi board, it only mainly promotes children’s education, and a subsidiary called Raspberry Pi Trading, funded in 2013, handles design, manufacturing and distribution of the Raspberry Pi boards, and puts profits back into the charity. Raspberry Pi Trading has now partnered with Element14 to offer customization services for the Raspberry Pi board. That means you’ll be able to remove or add interfaces and headers, replace the micro SD by a more reliable eMMC flash, add new functionalities to the board, and even re-design the layout in order to better match your project’s requirements. The companies “expect order quantities to start in the region of between 3,000 and 5,000 depending upon the nature of the customization”, so the service does not seem to be available , or cost effective, for smaller orders for a few hundred units. Element14 has […]

Element14 Design Center Helps You find a Development Board and Tools for Your Project

Element14 has just launched a Design Center, currently in beta version, which let’s you do parametric searches for development kits, debuggers, software tools, by tools vendor, silicon manufacturers, board features, and processor architecture / type. So for example if you want to work on a low power Linux based gateway with Ethernet and Zigbee, you may search for a board with Ethernet and Zigbee, and comes with an ARM Cortex A5 processor. In this example, the website returned four SAMA5D3x evaluation kits from Atmel which support Ethernet, as well as Zigbee via an external module. Then if you want to find which tools are available from Atmel, you can select “Emulation and Debugging”, “IDE & Compiler”, and “Operating Systems & Stacks”, as well as “Atmel” and “ARM” core architecture which will return Atmel Studio 6, and a JTAG emulator. It’s not quite perfect, as the only features you can search […]
