Ryzen Embedded SBC is Made for Real-time AI Vision, Conveyor Belt Tracking

MIRU130 Ryzen Embedded-SBC Real-time AI Vision Conveyor Belts

Axiomtek just recently introduced CAPA13R AMD Ryzen Embedded V1605B/V1807B SBC in 3.5″ embedded SBC form factor, and the company is now back with another, larger Ryzen Embedded SBC: Axiomtek MIRU130. Why would they launch yet another Ryzne Embedded board two weeks later? Different applications. While CAPA13R targets various graphics-intensive applications ranging from medical imaging to smart digital signage, MIRU130 appears to be especially focused on real-time vision-based AI applications with PoE and USB ports for cameras, and integrated “real-time vision I/Os” such as trigger inputs, LED lighting controllers, camera trigger outputs and an encoder input designed for conveyor tracking. MIRU130 SBC specifications: SoC (One or the other) – AMD Ryzen Embedded V1807B or V1605B quad-core processor with Radeon Vega 8 graphics; V1807B: 35-54W TDP; V1605B: 12-25W TDP System Memory – 2x 240-pin DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM, up to 16GB RAM Storage 1x SATA-600 1x M.2 Key B (SATA, USB 2.0, PCIe x2 […]

AM65xx module TSN Ethernet

Texas Instruments Sitara AM654 Cortex-A53/R5 SoC was launched in 2018 as the first 64-bit processor from the company and specifically targetting Gigabit industrial Ethernet networks with support for Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN). Since the processor launch, we’ve seen a couple of Sitara AM65xx modules such as PHYTEC phyCORE-AM65x SoM and Mistral AM65x Industrial SOM. There’s now another option with TQ Embedded TQMa65xx embedded module featuring a choice of 5 AM65xx dual-/quad-core processor, up to 4GB RAM, up to 64GB eMMC flash, and various I/Os via a 560-pin connector that includes six Gigabit TSN Ethernet interfaces. TQ Embedded TQMa65xx embedded module specifications: SoC – Texas Instruments Sitara AM6526, AM6527, AM6528, AM6546, or AM6548 with dual-core or quad-core Cortex-A53 processor @ 1.1 GHz, dual Cortex-R5 dual-lockstep processor @ 400 MHz, optional Imagination SGX544 GPU (AM6xx8 SKU) System Memory – Up to 4GB DDR4 SDRAM with optional ECC Storage – Up to 64GB eMMC […]

DFI GHF51 AMD Ryzen Embedded SBC Review – Part 1: Unboxing and Assembly

AMD Ryzen Raspberry Pi SBC Heatsink

Earlier this year, Taiwan based DFI launched GHF51 Ryzen Embedded R1000 SBC offering some similarities with Raspberry Pi 4 SBC, including a business card form factor, two Micro HDMI ports, and Gigabit Ethernet. But the comparison stopped there, as DFI GHF51 board will vastly outperform the Raspberry Pi 4 boards both in terms of CPU and graphics performance due to AMD Ryzen processor, and DFI embedded board does not target hobbyists nor students, but instead business and industrial customers. The company recently contacted CNX Software, and send GHF51 board with all accessories for review. I was pretty excited since it’s the first AMD Ryzen Embedded SBC that I’ll review, so it should be particularly interesting.  I’ve just received the sample and will do a two-part review starting with unboxing and kit assembly, before publishing the second part of the review reporting on my experience with Windows 10 and/or Ubuntu 20.04. TQ Group Announces NXP i.MX 8X ARM Cortex-A35 Modules as the Processor Finally Becomes Available

TQMa8Xx i.MX 8X Module

TQ Group, headquartered in Germany, has launched two NXP i.MX 8X Cortex-A35 modules with TQMa8Xx and TQMa8XxS SoMs, with the latter being SMARC 2.1 compliant, and both targeting various applications ranging from medical devices, HMIs, industrial controllers and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to gateways, building automation, transport, and robotics. The press release explains NXP will officially launch i.MX 8X CPUs on May 14, 2020. We first heard about i.MX 8X in 2016, before an official announcement in 2017, and we wrote about Toradex i.MX 8X SoM in 2018, plus 96Boards AI-ML SBC in 2019, so I naively believed the processor had been around for a couple of years, but the Toradex SoM product is still shown as an “early product announcement” [Update: the page has just been updated since it is now shipping as well],  and AI-ML board has just launched with 26 units available on Arrow website. Some […]

HART-IP Developer Kit Leverages Raspberry Pi 3B+, Off-the-Shelf Add-on Boards for Industrial Field Communication

HART-IP Developer Ki with AD/DA HAT

Have you ever heard about the bi-directional HART communication protocol? I haven’t, but I should probably have as there’s an installed base of over 40 million HART-enabled instruments according to FieldComm Group who owns the protocol and the organization is comprised of 375 corporate members working on process automation instrumentation, systems, and services. HART stands for Highway Addressable Remote Transducer. The organization is also maintaining the more recent (2009) HART-IP IP-enabled version of the HART field communication protocol and just launched HART-IP Developer Kit whose hardware is comprised of a Raspberry Pi 3B+ SBC and off-the-shelf add-on boards mounted on a DIN Rail mount. List of all hardware components: Raspberry Pi 3B+ SBC DSLRKIT Power Over Ethernet PoE HAT (around $20 on Aliexpress) Waveshare Raspberry Pi High-Precision AD/DA (about $30) DINrPlate DIN Rail Mount. MicroSD card On the software side, the system runs Ubuntu MATE 18.04 64-bit preloaded on the MicroSD […]
