Baanto ShadowSense Technology Enables Virtual Graffiti Drawings on Multitouch Displays

Baanto ShadowSense is a new 2D and 3D tracking technology using sensors that allow the system to determine the relative angle and as well as other characteristics of the shadow cast by an object. The system is provided as a frame with several sensors (4 typically) that you can connect via USB to your computer. It is an USB HID device, does not need drivers and support Windows XP/7, Linux and Android. This proprietary technology has the following key features: Traceability of multiple points or objects simultaneously (up to 5 points) Up to 10,000 fps. 16 MPixel resolution of shadow position. Simple algorithm that can be implement in 8-bit MCU. Low power draw. Less than $10 US per sensor. A typical configuration uses 4 sensors and plenty of small LED emitters as shown the illustration. Up to 1mm resolution of object position. No optical lenses are required The resolution is […]

Toshiba Resistive Multi-touch Screen

Toshiba developed a proprietary algorithm for multi-touch resistive touchscreen and they exhibited a demo at Embedded World 2011. The hardware is based around Toshiba TMPA900 (ARM926EJ-S core running at 200 Mhz) and runs embedded Linux. This type of system is aimed at home appliances (washing machine, refrigerator…), industrial and medical applications and can be used with a pen, stylus or gloved hand. For example, a doctor wearing gloves would be able to use multi-touch gestures on such screens whereas it would not be possible on capacitive touchscreens or standard resistive touchscreens. It was not specified but I suppose that technology would only support 2 points since they only showed two fingers gesture in the demo. This should not be a problem for the type of application. An another advantage of this solutions is that it brings multi-touch technology to cost sensitive industrial applications. The technology is still under development and […]

Digital Signage at CES 2011: HumanKiosk, ng Connect Program and Displays

Digital Signage solutions were also presented at CES 2011. Mediatile HumanKiosk Mediatile showcased its HumanKiosk solution, a digital signage system allowing face to face conversion (customer <-> representative) via 4G/LTE cellular networks at the Verizon Wireless and Alcatel Lucent booths. This system allows potential customers to ask questions about a particular product or service to a (hopefully) knowledgeable person. In case of very specific knowledge (e.g. some banking products), the company providing the products can save money (no need to have such persons in all branches) and provide a better customer service. Here’s a demo below of the HumanKiosk. ng Connect Program Alcatel-Lucent made several announcements about its ng Connect Program and three features are aimed directly at digital signage / dooh applications: Media Hotspot: Alcatel-Lucent, Atlantic Records and MediaTile developed a new jukebox concept that allows consumers to purchase their favorite music, movies and more via their mobile phone […]
