Back in November last year, we covered the launch of the NuMicro M55M1 MCU from Nuvoton, which combines an Arm Cortex-M55 core with an Ethos-U55 microNPU for on-device AI and gesture control. Now, they have released the NuMaker-GestureAI-M55M1, a development module based on that MCU for AI vision-related applications. This new board integrates the M55M1 MCU with a GC0308 CMOS image sensor, a digital microphone, and a microSD card slot for storing AI models. It is designed for applications such as gesture control, basic vision systems, and touchless interfaces. Nuvoton’s new NuMicro M3331 is a series of 32-bit Arm Cortex-M33 MCUs clocked at 180 MHz that integrate an ARGB LED controller, a DSP instruction set, a single-precision FPU, and TrustZone security for smart factories, renewable energy systems, and consumer devices. In the past, we have written about other Cortex-M33 MCUs like the STM32U3B5/C5, Texas Instruments MSPM33C321A, Nordic Semi’s nRF54LM20A, and various others, but the Nuvoton M3331 series specifically features a built-in Enhanced LED Light Strip Interface (ELLSI) and up to 10 standard LLSI channels. Nuvoton’s NuMicro M55M1 is a low-power AI MCU that combines a 220 MHz Arm Cortex-M55 CPU with a 111 GOPS Ethos-U55 NPU to run basic AI tasks on-device. It specifically targets small IoT and embedded devices that need low-power voice, audio, or simple image processing. The chip embeds 1.5 MB RAM, 2 MB flash, and supports external OctoSPI/HyperRAM memory. Connectivity options include Ethernet, USB-OTG, CAN-FD, I3C/I2C/SPI, SDIO, and an 8-bit camera interface, along with ADCs, DACs, comparators, PWM, and multiple low-power modes. Nuvoton MG51 Series is a new family of 8-bit 8051 microcontrollers clocked at up to 24 MHz with up to 64KB flash, 4KB SRAM, 5V operation, industrial temperature range, and a range of peripherals such as UART, I2C, SPI, 12-bit ADC, as well as up to 46 GPIOs. The NuMaker-UNO-M4 is an industrial-grade IoT development board powered by a Nuvoton NuMicro M467 series Arm Cortex-M4F Ethernet MCU and following the Arduino UNO R4 form factor. Nuvoton introduces the first security chip based on OpenTitan open-source silicon Root of Trust
Google has announced the start of the fabrication of a Nuvoton security chip featuring OpenTitan open-source silicon Root of Trust (RoT), the first such production-ready chip. It will soon be available in lowRISC’s Voyager 1 demo board, and later this year in Chromebooks and data centers. We first wrote about OpenTitan open-source Root of Trust (RoT) chips in 2020 as a collaboration between Google, Seagate, Nuvoton, Western Digital, lowRISC, as well as some other companies, projects, and universities that aimed at “building a transparent, high-quality reference design and integration guidelines for silicon root of trust (RoT) chips”. OpenTitan itself reached commercial availability last year, after the first engineering samples were released in 2023, and Google now says the Nuvoton chip (yet to have a proper name) is the first production-ready OpenTitan chip. Nuvoton M2003 is a low-cost Arm Cortex-M23 MCU for AIoT and Industrial applications
Nuvoton has recently launched the Nuvoton M2003 series of low-cost Arm Cortex-M23 microcontrollers which at the time of writing features M2003FC1AE and M2003XC1AE microcontrollers. Major features include a 32-bit hardware multiplier/divider, 32 KB of flash memory, 4 KB of SRAM, multiple communication interfaces (UARTs, I²C, USCI), analog peripherals (8-channel 12-bit ADC, 6-channel 16-bit PWM), and support for a wide voltage and temperature range. These features make this device useful for AIoT, industrial automation, smart homes, energy storage, and automotive electronics, and the company says the low-cost M2003 family offers a migration path from 8-bit to 32-bit designs. Feature-wise both the MCUs are the same and the only difference is in their package. The M2003FC1AE comes in a TSSOP20 package, whereas the M2003XC1AE comes in a QFN20 (3x3mm) package. Nuvoton NuMicro M2L31 Arm Cortex-M23 MCU embeds up to 512KB high-durability ReRAM, 168KB SRAM
Nuvoton NuMicro M2L31 is a family of Arm Cortex-M23 microcontrollers clocked up to 72 MHz, equipped with 64KB to 512KB high-durability ReRAM (Resistive Random-Access Memory) with fast write speeds, 40KB to 168KB SRAM. The microcontroller supports 1.71V to 3.6V operating voltage, can operate in the -40°C to 105°C temperature range, and offers a wide range of interfaces available through packages as small as WLCSP 25 (2.5 x 2.5 mm) and up to LQFP128 (14 x 14 mm). Arm introduced the Cortex-M23 core in 2016 together with the Arm Cortex-M33 core, but while the latter is widely integrated in a large range of designs, we’ve seen fewer Cortex-M23 microcontrollers with some examples being Microchip SAML10/L11 (2018) and more recently, the Renesas RA0 family.
