GL.inet has made routers for a long time, and its latest product is called Mudi which they promote as a “4G LTE Privacy Router for Road Warriors”. Mudi is battery-powered, and designed to improve security and privacy compared to using only public WiFi access points, and comes with Tor and VPN support – the latter turned on/off with a physical switch – out of the box. FriendlyELEC Nanopi NEO and NEO2 boards are really cool and inexpensive little Arm Linux boards suitable for all sort of headless application. I’ve reviewed one with their NAS Kit, and run one around the clock as a Domoticz/MQTT server. Stanislav needed a Gigabit Ethernet router to run OpenVPN, and after some research he settled on Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X router with 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, PoE in and pass-through, with a decent 256 MB RAM and 256MB flash, and a $49 MSRP, although I’ve only seen it for $60 and up. The router is not a new product, as it has been out for a few years (since 2015), and it’s also officially supported by OpenWrt, which makes it even more interesting. Last summer, we started to see products and motherboards based on Intel Atom C3000 series Denverton SoC, including GIGABYTE MA10-ST0 server motherboard and Axiomtek NA362 network appliance with up to 10 LAN ports. AAEON has informed me they’ve launched their own Denverton network appliance with AAEON FWS-2360 equipped with a pair of fiber/copper SFP GbE ports, four  GbE ports and two Mini-card slots to accommodate WiFi and 4G LTE expansion.
