$150 InkPalm Plus eReader features RK3566 SoC, 5.84-inch display

Xiaomi Inkpalm Plus

Xiaomi Moaan InkPalm Plus is a 5.84-inch eReader powered by the same Rockchip RK3566 processor found in Pine64 PineNote 10.3-inch Linux eReader, and currently selling for 999 CNY, or about $150 US, on JD.com after a 100 CNY discount. The device looks more like a smartphone than an eReader with its relatively small display, but there must be demand for this type of hardware since it succeeds the earlier InkPlam 5 eReader with Allwinner B300 quad-core Cortex-A7 SoC, plus an even smaller 5.2-inch display. Inkpalm Plus specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3566 quad-core A55 processor @ 1.8 GHz with Arm Mali-G52 EE GPU, 0.8 TOPS NPU (AI accelerator) System Memory – 2GB RAM Storage – 64GB eMMC flash Display – 5.84-inch E Ink display with 1440×720 resolution (276 PPI), front light with 24 levels and adjustable color adjustment, 5-point capacitive touch Audio – Mono microphone Connectivity – Dual-band 802.11b/g/n/ac WiFi 5, […]

Radxa E25 carrier board, 2.5GbE switch, and WiFi 6 router

Radxa E25 2.5GbE switch-Xiaomi AX6000 WiFi 6 router

I’ve just received an early sample of Radxa E25 dual 2.5 GbE carrier board for Radxa CM3 Plus (RK3568) system-on-module, a 2.5GbE TP-Link switch, and Xiaomi AX6000 WiFi 6 + 2.5GbE router. Here’s the back story before looking into the devices. I’ll soon have to review UP Xtreme i11 mini PC with a 2.5GbE port, and after writing about the upcoming ROCK5 Model B SBC with both 2.5GbE and WiFI 6/6E, I realized I should really get some hardware to test 2.5GHz and WiFi 6. So I started to ask what could be the best options for a $200 budget. While thinking about it, I remember Radxa was working on the Radxa E23 board with 2.5GbE, and adding a WiFi 6 USB dongle might be an option. But they told me Radxa E25 would be a better option with two 2.5GbE ports and support for WiFi 6, although that one […]

Linux 5.16 Release – Main Changes, Arm, RISC-V and MIPS architectures

Linux 5.16 release

Linus Torvalds has just announced the release of Linux 5.16: Not a lot here since -rc8, which is not unexpected. We had that extra week due to the holidays, and it’s not like we had lots of last-minute things that needed to be sorted out. So this mainly contains some driver fixes (mainly networking and rdma), a cgroup credential use fix, a few core networking fixes, a couple of last-minute reverts, and some other random noise. The appended shortlog is so small that you might as well scroll through it. This obviously means that the merge window for 5.17 opens tomorrow, and I’m happy to say I already have several pending early pull requests. I wish I had even more, because this merge window is going to be somewhat painful due to unfortunate travel for family reasons. So I’ll be doing most of it on the road on a laptop […]

Xiaomi CyberDog

We’ve previously written about consumer-grade smart robotic dogs selling for several hundred dollars with Petoi Bittle equipped with Arduino & Raspberry Pi, as well as XGO Mini Pro with Kendryte K210/K510 AI processor. Xiaomi has now launched its own quadruped robot that looks like a dog with the Xiaomi CyberDog equipped with a more powerful NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX system-on-module (SoM), a larger and heavier body than competing consumer models, and a price tag of a little over $1,500. Xiaomi Mi AX9000 WiFi 6 Enhanced router supports up to 1000 clients

Xiaomi Mi AX9000 wifi 6 enhanced router

Xiaomi launched the Mi AX6000 WiFI 6 Enhanced router, not to be confused with WiFI 6E, at the beginning of the year.  The router offers up to 4804Mbps link at 5 GHz, and up to 574Mbps with a 6+1 antenna configuration, as well as one 2.5GbE port, and several Gigabit Ethernet ports. But for people requiring even more bandwidth, Xiaomi Mi AX9000 WiFi 6 Enhanced router offers even more wireless throughput using three frequency bands with four antennas each, and up to 1148 Mbps at 2.4 GHz,  up to 4804Mbps at 5.2GHz, and up to 2402Mbps at 5.8GHz, which the company refers to as the 5G_Game band. Xiaomi Mi AX9000 WiFI 6 Enhanced Edition router specifications: SoC – Qualcomm IPQ8072 quad-core Cortex-A53 processor @ 2.2 GHz with dual-core 1.7GHz NPU (network acceleration engine / processing unit) System Memory – 1GB RAM Connectivity Wired 1x 2.5GbE LAN/WAN port 1x Gigabit Ethernet […]

Xiaomi Mi AX6000 WiFI 6 “Enhanced” Router sells for $92 (in China)

Xiaomi Mi AX6000

Yesterday, I wrote about Linksys AXE8400 WiFi 6E router which the company claimed was the world’s first, but it was pointed out to me that Xiaomi Mi AX6000 router was outed a few days earlier, and is even available right now in China or, while the Linksys router is scheduled to launch in spring or summer. Another big difference is the price with the Xiaomi router offered for 599 CNY (about $92) while the Qualcomm Networking Pro 1210 based Linksys router will sell for $450. That can partially be explained by the speed for WiFi (6000 Mbps vs 8000 Mbps), and Ethernet (2.5 Gbps WAN vs 5 Gbps WAN), but the Xiaomi router should still offer decent performance. Another reason for the cheaper price, as pointed by some smart people on OpenWrt forums is that the Xiaomi router goes not support 6 GHz, so it’s NOT a WiFi 6E router […]

$54 Xiaomi Mijia Paipai wireless HDMI system connects your computer to your TV

Xiaomi Mijia Paipai

A few years ago, we covered plenty of cheap Miracast adapters that plugged into your TV and used to mirror your Android or iOS smartphone display to a larger TV screen. It’s also possible to use Miracast on computers with WiFi, and since many TVs implement Miracast, extra hardware is often not needed. But in case your TV and computer are not compatible, Xiaomi Mijia Paipai wireless HDMI system [Update Nov 2020: actually called “Mi Wireless Casting Adapter” in English] solves this issue with a wireless HDMI receiver connected to your TV and a wireless HDMI transmitter connected to a USB port from your computer or laptop. Both the receiver and transmitter have similar dimensions (149.6 x 61 x 12.5 mm vs 152 x 60 x 11.9 mm) and weigh 38.5 grams in a form factor similar to Google Chromecast. The company says Windows 7 to 10 and Mac OS […]

Android 11 Release – People-centric Communication and “Pixel-First” Features

Android 11 Stable

Six months have passed since Android 11 developer preview was released in February and at the time we noted enhancements for foldables and 5G, new call-screening APIs, new media & camera capabilities including animated HEIF support, as well as machine learning improvements. Google has now officially released Android 11 that is currently rolling out to select Google Pixel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Realme phones. More phones will be upgraded/supported in the future, and Google also introduced some Pixel-first features that will (initially?) end up on Pixel phones exclusively. All Android 11 phones will support chat bubbles to message on top of other applications, built-in screen & audio, wireless Android Auto support with compatible cars, one-time permission for increased privacy, and more. But Google may have changed strategy trying to make Pixel phones more attractive to prospective buyers and increase sales as the Android 11 release comes with the following Pixel-exclusive […]
