Jevois Pro Hailo 8 AI accelerator

JeVois-Pro ultra-compact deep learning camera gets 26 TOPS Hailo-8 AI accelerator

JeVois-Pro tiny AI camera was introduced last year with an Amlogic A311D processor with a built-in 5 TOPS NPU, and support for an Intel Myriad X or Google Edge TPU M.2 card all that in a compact 50x50x45 mm box. The company has now managed to get hold of some M.2 A+E 2230 Hailo-8 modules delivering up to 26 TOPS of AI performance and is selling for JeVois-Pro ultra-compact deep learning camera with the Hailo-8 accelerator for $599 delivering up to 31 TOPS once we include the built-in 5 TOPS NPU.   I won’t go through the full specifications again, but in a nutshell, that’s a camera designed for robotics projects, powered by an Amlogic A311D hexa-core Cortex-A73/A53 processor with 4GB RAM, a microSD card socket for the OS and data, and a 2MP Sony IMX290 Starvis sensor. Since the system is quite compact and the AI accelerator fairly powerful, […]

Khadas Edge2 SBC

Khadas Edge2 ultra thin SBC is powered by Rockchip RK3588S processor

As noted in the Khadas VIM1S announcement, the company is also preparing to launch the Khadas Edge2 single board computer with a Rockchip RK3588S octa-core Cortex-A76/A55 processor and a thickness of just 5.7mm (before a low-profile heatsink is installed). The new board follows a similar form factor as the original Khadas Edge board powered by a Rockchip RK3399 processor, except the edge connector is gone, so it can’t be used as a system-on-module anymore, but remains the thinnest and one of the most powerful Arm SBCs so far. Khadas Edge2 Basic/Pro specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3588S CPU – Octa-core processor with four Cortex-A76 cores @ 2.25 GHz, four Cortex-A55 cores @ 1.8 GHz GPU – Arm Mali G610MC4 GPU AI accelerator – 6TOPS NPU VPU 8Kp60 10-bit H.265 decoder, 4Kp60 AV1 video decoder 8Kp30 H.264/H.265 video encoder MCU – STMicro STM32G031K6 Arm Cortex-M0+ microcontroller @ 64 Mhz for power management […]

Orange Pi 4 SBC gets 10.1-inch LCD touchscreen

Shenzhen Xunlong Software has released a 10.1-inch LCD touchscreen for the company’s Orange Pi 4 single board computer powered by a Rockchip RK3399 hexa-core Cortex-A72/A53 processor. The MIPI DSI display is based on Ilitek ILI9881c panel controller supported in mainline Linux, offers 1280×800 resolution, and besides working with the original Orange Pi 4, it’s also compatible with Orange Pi 4B (with AI accelerator) and the more recent Orange Pi 4 LTS SBC launched earlier this year. 10.1-inch LCD touchscreen specifications: Display Controller – Ilitek ILI9881C (See PDF datasheet) 10.1-inch panel size 1280×800 resolution @ up to 60Hz, with 16.7 million colors Luminance – 250 cd/m2 (or nit) Backlight – 27x white LEDs Brightness control with PWM 10-point multi touchscreen Host interface – MIPI DSI Dimensions Active area – 216.58 x 135.36 mm Outline dimensions – 228.6 x 143 x 2.7 mm Weight – TBD Temperature Range – Operating – 0 […]

Rockchip RK3588S mini PC

Firefly Station M3 – A Rockchip RK3588S mini PC with up to 16GB RAM

Firefly Station M3 is a mini PC powered by Rockchip RK3588S octa-core Cortex-A76/A55 processor, the cost-down version of the RK3588, and equipped with up to 16GB RAM, 128GB eMMC flash storage, support for M.2 SATA and NVMe SSD, 8K capable HDMI and DisplayPort (USB-C) video outputs, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 5, and more. NanoPi R4SE router

NanoPi R4SE dual Gigabit Ethernet router adds 32GB eMMC flash

NanoPi R4SE is a variant of the Rockchip RK3399-powered NanoPi R4S dual Gigabit Ethernet router that adds a 32GB eMMC flash instead of only relying on a microSD card for the operating system. Most of the specifications remain the same with dual GbE, two USB 3.0 ports, but the router is now only offered with 4GB LPDDR4 and there’s no option for only 1GB RAM, and the GPIO and USB 2.0 headers are gone. The listed temperature range also changed from -20°C to 70°C to 0°C to 80°C. NanoPi R4SE specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3399 hexa-core processor with dual-Core Cortex-A72 up to 2.0 GHz,  quad-core Cortex-A53 up to 1.5 GHz, Mali-T864 GPU with OpenGL ES1.1/2.0/3.0/3.1, OpenCL, DX11, and AFBC support, 4K VP9 and 4K 10-bit H265/H264 60fps video decoder System Memory – 4GB LPDDR4 Storage – 32GB eMMC flash, MicroSD card slot Networking – 2x GbE, including one native Gigabit […]

Rock 5B review Debian 11

Rock 5B RK3588 SBC preview – What works, what doesn’t in Debian 11

I’ve recently received an early sample of Radxa ROCK5 Model B (aka ROCK 5B) SBC part of the “Developer Edition” batch with 16GB RAM, and already showed the hardware and it booting successfully in Debian 11.

I’ve now spent more time with the board, and as part of the “debug party” tested performance and features in Debian 11. As one would expect, some things work fine, providing excellent performance, but others still need improvements.

Rockchip PVTM

What is PVTM? Or why your Rockchip RK3588 CPU may not reach 2.4 GHz

While the Rockchip RK3588 processor is advertised as reaching 2.4 GHz, not all RK3588 chips may achieve this frequency. The keyword is PVTM (Process-Voltage-Temperature Monitor), and we’ll try to explain why it does, and why some of the RK3588 processors may only be clocked at about 2.3 GHz, while others will run fine at 2.4 GHz. This all started with Rock 5B SBC debug party, where we noticed our boards did not reach the same frequency. Willy Tarreau noted the “pvtm” value was different between our boards: Willy’s board: (Cortex-A76 cluster 1 @ 2,304 MHz, cluster 2 @ 2,352 MHz)

CNXSoft board (Cortex-A76 cluster 1 @ 2,304 MHz, cluster 2 @ 2,304 MHz) :

Thomas Kaiser (tkaiser) board: (Cortex-A76 cluster 1 @ 2,400 MHz, cluster 2 @ 2,400 MHz)

For reference, CPU 0 to 3 are Cortex-A55 cores, CPU 4-5 are two Cortex-A76 cores (cluster 1), and […]
