MediaTek Dimensity 720 5G SoC to Power Mid-Tier 5G Smartphones

As 5G penetration and coverage slowly, but surely increase, 5G connectivity is moving from high-end SoC’s to mid-range processors with the likes of HiSilicon Kirin 820, Qualcomm Snapdragon 690, or Samsung Exynos 880. MediaTek already had Dimensity 800 & 820 SoC for the mid-tier market, but the company has now gone one step lower with Dimensity 720 5G SoC equipped with two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, six Cortex A55 cores, a Mali G57MC3 GPU, and a 5G modem with 2.3Gbps peak (e.g. theoretical) download speed. One Netbook OneGx1 Mini Laptop Supports WiFi 6, 4G LTE or 5G Connectivity

We’ve seen plenty of mini laptops with 6″ to 9″ displays in the last couple of years, mainly from GPD and One Netbook, and to a lesser extend from CHUWI. Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G Processor Brings 5G, Cortex-A77 to Mid-Range Smartphones

Qualcomm launched Snapdragon 855, the company’s first 5G mobile processor, in December 2018, before following up the next year with Snapdragon 865, 765, and 765G 5G mobile platforms still targetted to higher-end and premium smartphones. Qualcomm has now introduced its first 5G mobile SoC part of the mid-range Snapdragon 600-series with Snapdragon 690 5G octa-core processor featuring Cortex-A77 and Cortex-A53 cores, and a Snapdragon X51 5G modem delivering up to 2.5 Gbps download speed. AMD Ryzen C7, an Arm Cortex-X1/A78/A55 Processor with MediaTek 5G Modem? (Leak)

Arm just announced Cortex-A78 and Cortex-X1 CPU cores last week, and we should expect several silicon vendors to announce new SoCs based on the new cores by the end of the year. But AMD? Yes, according to a now-deleted leak from Slashleaks that lives on Twitter. Samsung Exynos 880 SoC Targets Mid-Range 5G Smartphones

5G used to be reserved for premium smartphones, but with processors such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and Huawei/Hisilicon Kirin 820, 5G cellular connectivity is also coming to mid-range smartphones. Samsung Exynos 880 brings another option to the mid-range 5G handsets market. The octa-core Cortex-A77/A55 mobile processor comes with a Mali-G76 GPU, an NPU and a DSP for on-chip AI acceleration, and supports 5G downloads up to 3.55 Gbps, uploads up to 1.38 Gbps. MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ 5G Mobile SoC Supports 144Hz FHD+ Displays, 5G UltraSave Technology, and More

MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G processor for premium mobile devices was announced in Q4 2019 with eight Cortex-A77/A55 cores, an Arm Mali-G77 MC9, and APU 3.0 AI coprocessor. Since then, several companies have announced plans to launch Dimensity 1000 smartphones with products such as Astro Slide 5G Transformer. But while there aren’t any Dimensity 1000 phones available for sale just yet (AFAIK), MediaTek has already announced an updated version with Dimensity 1000+ (Dimensity 1000 Plus). The new version of the processor runs the CPU and GPU cores at the same frequencies, and the differences are instead in other specific features of the processor, as we’ve highlighted below.
