Flipper One – A Rockchip RK3576-powered portable Arm Linux computer and networking multi-tool

Flipper One

Flipper Devices has officially introduced the Flipper One open-source hardware portable Arm Linux platform and networking and Edge AI multi-tool powered by a Rockchip RK3576 octa-core Arm Cortex-A72/A53 SoC, and featuring a Raspberry Pi RP2350 for low-level control. You may think of it as a successor to the popular STM32-based Flipper Zero hardware and wireless hacking tool, but the company stresses that the Flipper One is NOT a replacement for the Flipper Zero. It is a different product with mainline Linux kernel support, no binary blobs (probably not 100% true), and open-source drivers, and operating at a different level of the networking and wireless stacks with dual Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E, and optional 5G or 4G LTE modem. Flipper One specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3576 CPU 4x Cortex-A72 cores @ 2.2GHz, 4x Cortex-A53 cores @ 1.8GHz Arm Cortex-M0 MCU at 400MHz GPU – ARM Mali-G52 MC3 GPU with support for […]

ESP32-S3 PowerFeather V2 board gains support for LiFePO4/LFP batteries

ESP32-S3 PowerFeather V2 LiFePO4 battery support

The ESP32-S3 PowerFeather V2 board is an ESP32-S3 WiFi and BLE IoT board with an Adafruit Feather form factor that supports LiFePO4/LFP batteries, as well as Li-Ion or LiPo batteries, and up to 18V DC input for solar panel connection. As one could have guessed, it’s an update to the ESP32-S3 PowerFeather board introduced in 2024 with support for solar panel input, Li-Ion, and LiPo batteries. The V2 design is virtually identical, except it features an Analog Devices MAX17260 fuel gauge and a TPS631013 buck-boost regulator that keeps 3.3 V stable to add support for LiFePO4 batteries. Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are said to be safer and longer-lasting than Li-ion or LiPo batteries, albeit at the cost of lower energy density. ESP32-S3 PowerFeather V2 specifications: ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8R2 SoC – ESP32-S3 CPU – Dual-core Tensilica LX7 up to 240 MHz Memory – 512KB SRAM, 16 KB RTC SRAM Wireless – 2.4 GHz […]

The device sports a large 2.1-inch IPS display with a 320×390 resolution and is housed in a CNC-machined zinc alloy body. But what’s interesting about this is its mechanical, spring-loaded “Pop & Snap” design that houses the TWS earbuds inside the watch, and eliminates the need for a separate charging case. PENOX WristBuds specifications: MCU – Bluetooth AB5681G  CPU – 32-bit RISC-V CPU @ up to 140 MHz Memory –  TBC (not mentioned at all in the MCU datasheet) Storage – 128Mbit integrated NOR Flash Display & Graphics – SPI/QSPI display engine with HW acceleration (DMA, rotation, scaling, blending) Audio – […]

Mind xPlay display and keyboard review using Khadas Mind and Mind 2 mini PCs

Khadas xPlay connected to Crowview USB C display

In this review, I’ll report my experience with the Khadas Mind xPlay display and keyboard using the Mind and Mind 2 mini PCs, as well as a CHUWI CoreBook Air Plus 16 laptop to test it as a standard external display. Using Mind xPlay with the Mind 2 mini PC I received the Mind xPlay with the Mind 2 Meteor Lake mini PC, and I already showed how to connect it and get started in the first part of the review. So I’ll continue the review with it initially. I used the EIZO monitor test website to evaluate the display panel itself. I went through all 13 tests, including dead pixel and gradients tests. The pattern above looks fine too, so I compare the Mind xPlay monitor to the 16-inch display of the ASUS Vivobook 16 to find differences. Both were set to maximum brightness. The xPlay delivers noticeably more […]
