WPC-632-Pi CM4 is an industrial IoT gateway based on Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 with optional 5G or 4G LTE cellular connectivity, that joins other Raspberry Pi CM4 industrial gateways such as CompuLab IOT-GATE-RPI4, CatsPi Industrial Lite, Modberry M500 CM4, among others. GL.inet introduced the GL-S10 BLE to MQTT IoT gateway last month with an ESP32 module offering WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as Ethernet and PoE support. I got offered a sample for review, and just received it together with the optional BLE beacon. So today, I’ll first have a look at the content, and check out the hardware with a teardown. MediaTek has recently introduced the Filogic connectivity family with two parts, namely the Filogic 830 Wi-Fi 6/6E system-on-chip (SoC), and the Filogic 630 Wi-Fi 6E network interface card (NIC) solutions. The WiFi 6/6E tri-band (2.4, 5, and 6 GHz) chips are Wi-Fi Alliance EasyMesh certified, and designed for home, business, and enterprise router and repeater devices, home automation bridges, IoT gateways, as well as consumer devices such as laptops, TVs, IP cameras, etc… The MediaTek Filogic 830 is a complete 12nm SoC with a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor clocked at up to 2 GHz per core delivering over 18,000 DMIPs, hardware acceleration engines for Wi-Fi offloading and networking, dual 4×4 Wi-Fi 6/6E for up to 6Gbps connectivity, two 2.5Gbps Ethernet interfaces, and various other peripheral interfaces, but MediaTek did not provide any details about those. ZB-GW03 is an Ethernet Zigbee Gateway compatible with eWelink mobile app and with a design similar to SONOFF ZBBridge gateway but replacing ESP8266 SoC by ESP32 SoC, and adding an Ethernet port. The ZB-GW03 gateway is apparently based on the same Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 Zigbee Arm Cortex-M33 chip and has been hacked to run Tasmota open-source software for people preferring more flexibility and/or integration with OpenHAB or Home Assistant open-source home automation frameworks via Zigbee2MQTT.
