Octavo OSD32MP2 System-in-Package (SiP) packs an STM32MP25 SoC, DDR4, EEPROM, and passive components into a single chip

Octava Systems OSD32MP2 SiP

Octavo Systems OSD32MP2 is a family of two System-in-Package (SiP) modules, comprised of the OSD32MP2 and OSD32MP2-PM, based on the STMicro STM32MP25 Arm Cortex-A35/M33 AI processor, DDR4 memory, and various components to reduce the complexity, size, and total cost of ownership of solutions based on the STM32MP2 chips. The OSD32MP2 is a larger, yet still compact, 21x21mm package with the STM32MP25, DDR4, EEPROM, oscillators, PMIC, passive components, and an optional RTC, while the OSD32MP2-PM is even smaller at 14x9mm and combines the STM32MP25, DDR4, and passive components in a single chip. OSD32MP2 specifications: SoC – STMicro STM32MP25 CPU – Up to 2x 64-bit Arm Cortex-A35 @ 1.5 GHz MCU 1x Cortex-M33 @ 400 MHz with FPU/MPU; 1x Cortex M0+ @ 200 MHz in SmartRun domain GPU – VeriSilicon 3D GPU @ 900 MHz with OpenGL ES 3.2 and Vulkan 1.2 APIs support VPU – 1080p60 H.264, VP8 video decoder/encoder Neural […]

OSD62x SiP combines TI AM62x processor with LPDDR4, EEPROM, PMIC, and passives into a single package

OSZU3 System-in-Package (SiP) combines AMD Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC with 2GB RAM, PMIC, passive components

OSZU3 system-in-package

Octavo Systems has collaborated with AMD Xilinx for the OSZU3 system-in-package (SiP) that combines Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC ZU3 with up to 2GB RAM, power management circuitry, and other components into a compact (40×20.5mm) 600-ball BGA package. We’ve already written about other Octavo Systems SiPs in the past with solutions like OSD3358x (TI Sitara AM3358) and OSD32MP15x (STMicro STM32MP1), but the OSZU3 packs a much more powerful and flexible chip with the AMD Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC offering both Cortex-A53 & Cortex-R5F cores, Arm Mali-400 GPU, and FPGA fabric.   Octavo Systems OSZU3 SiP specifications: SoC – AMD Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC ZU3 with CPU – 4x Arm Cortex-A53 up to 1.2GHz, 2x Arm Cortex-R5F up to 500MHz GPU – Arm Mali-400 FPGA 154K System Logic Cells 141K Flip-Flops 71K CLB LUTs 360 DSP Slices 7.6 Mb Block RAM System Memory – 2GB LPDDR4 Storage – 128MB SQPI, and 4K EEPROM (by […]

OSD32MP1-RED full-featured STM32MP1 development board launched for $265

OSD32MP1-RED development board

OSD32MP1-RED development board was first announced last year together with another board based on Octavo Systems OSD32MP1 System-in-Package (SiP). The chip packs an STMicro STM32MP1 Cortex-A7/M4 processor, up to 1GB DDR3L memory, 4KB EEPROM, a PMIC, two low-power MEMS oscillators, over 100 passive components into a single 18x18mm 302 Ball BGA package. The company has now just announced the availability of the OSD32MP1-RED development platform on DigiKey, Arrow, and Mouser for around $265 and up. There have been a few modifications to the design with, for instance, the USB header replaced by a USB Type-A connector, but the most notable difference is that OSD32MP1-RED is now using a green PCB instead of the red one showed during the first announcement… OSD32MP1-RED specifications: SiP –  Octavo Systems OSD32MP157C-512M-BAA with STM32MP157C SoC with dual-core Arm Cortex-A7, Cortex-M4 real-time core, plus 512MB DDR3 memory, STPMIC1A power management chip, EEPROM, oscillator, and passive components […]

Octavo Systems Announces Development Boards based on OSD32MP1 System-in-Package (SiP)

OSD32MP1-Red Development Board

Announced in February 2019, STM32MP1 Cortex-A7/M4 processor family recently got an update with 24 new SKU’s boosting the Cortex A7 core frequency to 800 MHz instead of just 650 MHz for the SoC’s announced last year. One of the first companies to take advantage of the new parts will be Octavo Sytems that unveiled OSD32MP1 system-in-package (SiP) last year combining STM32MP15x MPU, up to 1GB RAM, 4K EEPROM, STPMIC1 power management IC, two oscillators, and over 100 passive components into a single chip. The company also introduced two upcoming development kits for the STM32MP1 based SiP: OSD32MP1-BRK “Flexible Prototyping Platform” and the more featured OSD32MP1-RED evaluation & development board. Both boards are supported by OpenSTLinux which we covered in our previous articles about STM32MP1. OSD32MP1-BRK Breakout board for OSD32MP1 SiP The first board aims to provide easy access to the I/O of the STM32MP1 processor via breadboard compatible headers, and […]

Octavo Systems Unveils OSD32MP15x STM32MP1 SiP (System-in-Package)

Octavo Systems OSD32MP15X STM32MP1 SiP

STMicro STM32MP1 is one of the most interesting microprocessor recently announced, as it should allow a relatively easy upgrade path for projects based on the traditional STM32 Cortex-M4 microcontrollers, thanks to backward compatibility, and the extra one or two Arm Cortex-A7 cores enabling Linux support. We’ve already seen several upcoming evaluation and development boards based on STM32MP157 processor including STMicro’s own discovery kits and evaluation platform, as well as Arrow Electronics Avenger96 board fitted with a tiny 29x29mm SoM.  But I suspect we could see even more compact designs soon, as Octavo Systems has now unveiled OSD32MP15x system-in-package with STM32MP15x MPU, up to 1GB RAM, 4K EEPROM, STPMIC1 power management IC, two oscillators, and over 100 passive components all brought together into a 18x18mm package. Octavo Systems OSD32MP15x system-in-package main components and specifications: MPU (MicroProcessor Unit) – STMicroelectronics STM32MP15x with Dual Arm Cortex-A7 @ 650MHz, Arm Cortex-M4 real-time core @ […]

Octavo Systems Adds eMMC flash and Oscillator to its TI Sitara AM335x SiP

OSD335x-C SiP

Octavo Systems unveiled their OSD3358 System-in-Package (SiP) in 2016 with the package integrating TI Sitara AM3358 Arm Cortex-A8 SoC, 256 to 512MB memory, PMIC, LDO and passive components into a single package. The SiP is notably found in the $25 PocketBeagle board, which only adds a micro SD card slot, a micro USB port, and a few passive components to the PCB. The company has now gone further by also adding an eMMC flash and an oscillator to their OSD335x C-SiP. That means another version of PocketBeagle could potentially be made without the micro SD card, using the eMMC flash in the SiP instead, and adding an oscillator – missing in PoketBeagleBone – necessary to use low power modes and RTC wake-up. OSD335x C-SiP main specifications: SoC – Texas Instruments Sitara AM335x Arm Cortex-A8 processor @ up to 1 GHz with PowerVR SGX530 GPU, PRU Subsystem System Memory – Up […]
