Eufy EverCam Full HD Waterproof WiFi Security Camera Works for Up to a Year on a Single Battery Charge

Wired security cameras can be troublesome to installed due to the cabling required, but luckily there are solutions to avoid all those long cables with solar powered IP cameras, or battery powered IP cameras. A few years ago I wrote about Immedia Blink WiFi HD camera that claimed to last a year on a charge, and despite several complains on Kickstarter, they seem to still be in business.  There’s now a more advanced model by Eufy – an Anker brand – that supports 1080p video recording with motion sensing and face recognition, that also lasts up to one year on a charge, and offers free storage. Eufy EverCam specifications: Resolution – 1080p Video Format – H.264 High profile Image Sensor – Sony Exmor IMX323, 1/2 9-inch Field of View (FoV) – 140° Night Vision Range – up to 10 meters Digital Pan & Zoom  – Yes, up to 8x Motion […]

My Experience with Dodocool AC750 WiFi Repeater

Dodocool-AC750-WiFi-Repeater

A while ago, I tested Dodocool DC30S USB type C Hub with HDMI, USB port, and a card reader, and recently the company asked me whether I wanted to review another of their accessories. My ISP has recently taken the habit of being down several hours each month, so I rely on my neighbor’s WiFi (with he’s permission) in those case, but since the signal is too weak, I’m using a wireless audio streamer and a power bank to extend the signal and connect it to my router using WDS Bridging.  Then I saw Dodocool DC24 802.11ac WiFi repeater, so I decided to give it a chance. Dodocool DC24 A750 Repeater Unboxing I received the device is a cardboard box with some specifications. It’s an AC750 router/repeater with 300 Mbps @ 2.4 GHz + 433 Mbps @ 5 GHz. The product page linked above has some more details with the […]

$19.50 BPI:bit ESP32 Board is Inspired by BBC Micro:bit, Compatible with Webduino and Arduino IDE

BPIbit

BBC micro:bit board for education was first unveiled in 2015, before starting to be given away to UK students, and later sold for about $19 in 2016. The board supports Bluetooth connectivity, includes an array of 25 LEDs, as well as a specific 20-pin edge connector also featuring 5 large holes (rings) for 3 I/Os and power. So far I had not seen any clones or alternative boards inspired from the design, as we see for Arduino or Raspberry Pi boards. But SinoVoIP (Banana Pi) has changed that with their BPI:bit clearly inspired from the Micro:bit, but offering both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity via an ESP32 module. Hardware specifications: Wireless module – ESP-WROOM-32 module with WiFi and Bluetooth LE connectivity LEDs – 25x RGB LED array Sensors – 2x light sensors, thermistor, 9-axis accelerometer / gyroscope / compass (MPU-9250) Expansion – 3 digital/analog I/O rings, 3V/GND ring, 20-pin edge connector […]

49 Euros Arduino Yún Rev.2 Unveiled with a Lower Profile, USB and Power Improvements

Arduino Yún board launched in 2013 was the first official Arduino combining Arduino  and Linux thanks to respectively an  Atmel ATMega32u4 microcontroller, and Atheros AR9331 MIPS WiFi SoC running Linino, a fork of OpenWrt maintained by Arduino. The company has now launched an upgraded version – simply called Arduino Yún Rev.2 – in order to to improve security, support, and open-sourceness of the board. Arduino Yun Rev.2 key specifications have actually not changed: MCU – Microchip ATMega32U4 @ 16 MHz (as used in Leonardo board) with 2.5KB SRAM, 32KB flash, 1KB EEPROM SoC – Atheros AR9331 MIPS-based Wi-Fi SoC coupled with 64MB external DDR2 and 16MB SPI NOR flash Storage – microSD card slot USB – micro USB connector + full USB 2.0 host port Connectivity – Ethernet + Wi-Fi I/Os 20 digital input/output pins (including 7x PWM outputs) 12x analog inputs But the hardware design – this time development […]

Real Time Logic Releases Web-based SharkSSL FreeRTOS/lwIP ESP8266 IDE

Real Time Logic claims SharkSSL is the smallest, fastest, and best performing embedded TLS v1.0/1.1/1.2 solution. It works with ColdFire, Kinetis K60, all the Cortex-M3 and -M4 processors,  as well as Tensilica LX3 based ESP8266. The solutions can be tuned via compile-time options to a less than 20kB footprint that still supports full x.509 authentication. SharkSSL is a commercial solution, but the SDK is free to use for non-commercial projects. In order to simplify development on ESP826, the company has released the SharkSSL ESP8266 IDE running in a virtual machine, and providing a complete FreeRTOS and lwIP based development environment using a web based interface. Once you’ve downloaded the virtual machine image,  you can start it in VirtualBox or VMWare with bridged networking enabled. The IP address of the virtual machine will be shown in the console, and you can use it in your favorite web browser in the host […]
