COM-HPC and COM Express Type 6 modules feature Alder Lake-H mobile IoT processor

COM-HPC Alder Lake-H

We’ve written about the new Intel Alder Lake IoT processors announced right before CES 2022, and the first embedded platforms are starting to show up starting with COM-HPC and COM Express Type 6 modules from ADLink Technology powered by the 35/45W Alder Lake-H mobile IoT processor family. Express-ADP is a COM Express Basic Size Type 6 module, while COM-HPC-cADP is a COM-HPC Client Type Size B module. Both are designed for stationary, mobile, and portable solutions with typical applications including ultrasound, test and measurement, industrial edge servers, machine vision, mammography, surgical robots, security or perimeter tracking, and access control. Alder Lake-H COM Express / COM-HPC module Besides the form factor, both modules will have very similar specifications. Here are Express-ADP specifications: SoC (12th Gen Intel Core Alder Lake-H) Intel Core i7-12800HE 14-core (6P+8E), 20-thread processor @ up to 4.6 GHz with 24 MB cache, Intel Xe GPU, 45W TDP (35W […]

Imagination introduces Catapult RISC-V CPU cores

As expected, Imagination Technologies is giving another try to the CPU IP market with the Catapult RISC-V CPU cores following their previous unsuccessful attempt with the MIPS architecture, notably the Aptiv family. Catapult RISC-V CPUs are/will be available in four distinct families for dynamic microcontrollers, real-time embedded CPUs, high-performance application CPUs, and functionally safe automotive CPUs. The new 32-/64-bit RISC-V cores will be scalable to up to eight asymmetric coherent cores-per cluster, offer a “plethora of customer configurable options”, and support optional custom accelerators. What you won’t see today are block diagrams and detailed technical information about the cores because apparently, all that information is confidential even though some Catapult RISC-V cores are already shipping “in high-performance Imagination automotive GPUs”. The only way to get more details today is to sign an NDA. Having said that we have some more information about the target markets and development tools.  Imagination Capapult […]

Getting Started with the Yocto Linux BSP for Polarfire SoC FPGA Icicle Kit

Last month I received Microchip PolarFire SoC FPGA Icicle development kit that features PolarFire SoC FPGA with a Penta–core 64-bit RISC-V CPU subsystem and an FPGA with 254K LE, and booted it into the pre-installed Linux operating systems based on OpenEmbedded. Today, I’ll show how to get started with the Yocto BSP and run the EEMBC CoreMark benchmark, and I’ll check out the FPGA with Libero SoC Design Suite in a couple of weeks. Operating Systems supported by PolarFire SoC FPGA My initial idea was to focus this part of the review on Linux on RISC-V status, checking some system information, running some benchmarks (e.g. SBC-Bench), compiling the Linux kernel, and installing services like a LEMP stack (Linux, Nginx (pronounced Engine-X), MySQL, PHP) which could be used for WordPress hosting for instance. But then I looked at the operating systems supported with Microchip PolarFire SoC FPGA. There’s a Yocto Linux […]
