Spark: Linux Tablet with KDE based Plasma Active

This must be the very first Linux tablet available on the market. Spark sports an open Linux stack on unlocked hardware and comes with an open content and services market. The user interface is Plasma Active running on KDE. Here are the technical specifications: CPU: ARM AMLogic (Cortex-A9) @ 1 GHz Mali-400 GPU 512 Mo RAM 7″ multi-touch capacitive touchscreen 4 Go Flash SD card slot WiFi, 3G (GSM), HDMI (1080p), 2 mini-USB ports Battery: 3000 mAh at 7,4 volts or 6000 mAh at 4,7 volts Weight: 355 grams You can see Plasma Active interface in the video below: The tablet will cost 200 Euros (about 270 USD). They did not provide availability, but promised further information on Tuesday. OLPC XO-3 Sugar Linux Tablet

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) foundation has unveiled the OLPC XO-3 Tablet at CES 2012. This Tablet features a 8″ 1024×768 capacitive LCD touch screen running a version of Sugar Linux for Touchscreen. This must be the only tablet ot running Android at CES 2012… This current sample only have a front camera, but the final device will have both a front and rear camera. They also have an optional solar panel cover (4W panel), that can be used to charge the tablet (2W), so in ideal conditions if you charge it for 2 hours, the tablet can be used for 4 hours. Sipeed unveils RISC-V tablet, portable Linux console, and cluster

Sipeed has unveiled three new hardware platforms based on the LM4A RISC-V system-on-module found in their LicheePi 4A SBC, namely the Lichee Cluster 4A cluster for native RISC-V compilation, the Lichee Pad 4A 10.1-inch tablet running Android 13 or Debian, and the Lichee Console 4A a portable Linux console with a small 7-inch display and a built-in keyboard. As a quick reminder, the Sipeed LM4A SoM is based on the Alibaba T-Head TH1520 quad-core RISC-V processor @ 1.8 to 2.5 GHz that has just gotten some support in Linux 6.5, comes with up to 16GB RAM and up to 64 GB eMMC flash, integrates two Gigabit Ethernet PHY, and exposes all I/Os through a 260-pin SO-DIMM connector. The Juno tablet is a 10.1-inch Linux tablet that ships with Manjaro Linux or Mobian, and is powered by an Intel Celeron N5100 quad-core Jasper Lake mobile processor. The Linux tablet comes with a 1920×1200 resolution IPS touchscreen display, 8GB LPDDR4 soldered on the main board, and a choice between a 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB SSD. Samsung unveiled “Linux on Galaxy” a little over a year ago with the aim of allowing developers to running Linux desktop on their high Galaxy smartphones coupled with DeX Station dock, keyboard, mouse and display. It was not quite ready for public consumption yet, so I registered to their mailing list to get more information in due time. Jolla Tablet running Linux based Sailfish OS was launched in 2014 via Indiegogo, and the campaign was initially very successful having raised over 2.5 million dollars, but eventually it became a disaster as the company had some financial issues, and the tablet was canceled with on a few backers having received their tablet. The company eventually organized a refund program, so it did not end up being as bad as it first seemed. But there’s now a “new” SailFish OS tablet – Youyouta tablet – that has been launched on Indiegogo last month. Jolla is not handling the manufacturing and campaign, and instead it’s done by a third party who is paying license fees to Jolla for Sailfish OS. $369 CHUWI Hi13 2-in-1 Windows 10 Tablet is Equipped with a 3000×2000 Display, Supports Ubuntu / Linux

I’ve recently reviewed CHUWI LapBook 14.1 laptop powered by an Intel Apollo Lake Celeron N3450 quad core processor, and found it to be a perfectly usable entry-level laptop with a few caveats like potential issues with USB ports, and the lack of brightness keys. The company is now about to launch with a higher end model, with the same processor, but instead of a 14.1″ Full HD display it will come with a high resolution 3000×2000 touchscreen 13.5″ display. The tablet will sell with Windows 10, but the company also claims support for Ubuntu, and other Linux distributions will likely work too.
