ESP32 Rainbow is an open-source, ESP32-S3-powered ZX Spectrum single board computer (Crowdfunding)

Retrocomputing enthusiasts will be delighted to learn that a new ZX Spectrum replica is on the market: the ESP32 Rainbow. The single board computer swaps the Zilog Z80 for an ESP32-S3 microcontroller chip running an emulator, bringing the classic 80s computer back to life with a modern twist. It features a built-in color display, a microSD card slot for storage, a built-in touch keyboard in the ZX Spectrum style, and a USB Type-C port for power and data. The keyboard was recreated using full-color UV printing and is the most true-to-life component of the ESP32-S3-based ZX Spectrum single board computer. The touch keys won’t likely offer the best typing experience but that is reminiscent of the original ZX Spectrum. BeagleY-AI SBC review with Debian 12, TensorFlow Lite, other AI demos

Today I’ll be reviewing the BeagleY-AI open-source single-board computer (SBC) developed by BeagleBoard.org for artificial intelligence applications. It is powered by a Texas Instruments AM67A quad-core Cortex-A53 processor running at 1.4 GHz along with an ARM Cortex-R5F processor running at 800 MHz for handling general tasks and low-latency I/O operations. The SoC is also equipped with two C7x DSP units and a Matrix Multiply Accelerator (MMA) to enhance AI performance and accelerate deep learning tasks. Each C7x DSP delivers 2 TOPS, offering a total of up to 4 TOPS. Additionally, it includes an Imagination BXS-4-64 graphics accelerator that provides 50 GFlops of performance for multimedia tasks such as video encoding and decoding. Firefly has released a Rockchip RK3576 SoM and development board called the Core-3576JD4 Core Board with a SO-DIMM edge connector and the AIO-3576JD4 carrier board respectively. The core board or the SoM is built around an octa-core 64-bit processor with a Mali G52 MC3 GPU and a 6 TOPS NPU, so it can handle demanding AI tasks while maintaining low power consumption. ASUS Tinker Board 3 is a credit card-sized SBC based on Rockchip RK3566 SoC with an HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio jack, gigabit Ethernet, an M.2 socket for WiFi and Bluetooth, four USB ports, and a 40-pin GPIO header with a layout similar to the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. When I first wrote about the Tinker Board 3 in 2023, it was a larger (100 x 100 mm) SBC based on Rockchip RK3568 SoC that was later renamed to Tinker Board 3N, now also available as a complete rugged system (more about that in a subsequent post). Seeed Studio has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the SenseCAP Watcher, a physical AI agent capable of monitoring a space and taking actions based on events within that area. Described as the “world’s first Physical LLM Agent for Smarter Spaces,” the SenseCAP Watcher leverages onboard and cloud-based technologies to “bridge the gap between digital intelligence and physical applications.” The SenseCAP Watcher is powered by an ESP32-S3 microcontroller coupled with a Himax WiseEye2 HX6538 chip (Cortex-M55 and Ethos-U55 microNPU) for image and vector data processing. It builds on the Grove Vision AI V2 module and comes in a form factor about one-third the size of an iPhone. Teledatics HaloMax Wi-Fi HaLow LGA or M.2 module supports over 1000 clients, have been tested at a 100+km range (Crowdfunding)

Teledatics has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the TD-HALOM HaloMax Wi-Fi HaLow module available in LGA and M.2 form factors for long-range and low-power connectivity, as well as HaLow development boards based on the module and various daughterboards for expansion. The wireless module, powered by Newracom’s NRC7394 SoC, is the product of a collaboration between Newracom and Teledatics. According to Zac Freeman, VP of Marketing & Sales at Newracom, the HaloMax module is “the highest output power Wi-Fi HaLow module available on the market. The Teledatics TD-HALOM module transmits at the highest allowable FCC power output and offers a Maximum Range HaLow solution.” Earlier this year, Teledatics broke the record for the longest distance for a Wi-Fi HaLow connection using the HaloMax wireless module and TE Connectivity Yagi antennas. Linux 6.11 is out with Linus Torvalds’ announcement on the Linux kernel mailing list (LKML): I’m once again on the road and not in my normal timezone, but it’s Sunday afternoon here in Vienna, and 6.11 is out. The last week was actually pretty quiet and calm, which is nice to see. The shortlog is below for anybody who wants to look at the details, but it really isn’t very many patches, and the patches are all pretty small. Nothing in particular stands out – the biggest patch in here is for Hyper-V Confidential Computing documentation. Anyway, with this, the merge window will obviously open tomorrow, and I already have 40+ pull requests pending.
