Radxa NIO 5A credit card-sized Mediatek Genio 520 SBC showcased at Computex 2025

Radxa NIO 5A is an upcoming Mediatek Genio 520 SBC in credit card/Raspberry Pi form factor that should offer a more affordable entry into the MediaTek Genio family than Radxa Nio 12L equipped with a powerful Mediatek Genio 1200 SoC.

There’s no public information on the web about it, but I was sent some photos of the board from Mediatek’s booth at Computex 2025, and we know it’s powered by the Genio 520 octa-core Cortex-A78/A55 SoC with a 10 TOPS AI accelerator and comes with “large memory and high-capacity storage”. Let’s see if we can derive more detailed specs from the photos and other public information about the SoC.

Mediate Genio 520 MT8371 SBC Computex 2025

The Mediatek Genio 520 SBC is designed for edge computing, intelligent security, Smart Retail, cloud computing, and Smart Home applications. The Genio 520 was announced along with the Genio 720 last March, so it’s very new, and it will likely take a while before the board is released.

While we don’t have anything specific about software/OS for the Radxa NIO 5A, Mediatek mentions support for Android, Yocto Linux, and Ubuntu OS for the Genio 520/720, and NVIDIA TAO Toolkit for the 10 TOPS NPU.

We don’t have pricing information, but we can always speculate. The Radxa NIO 12L SBC starts at $99 with 4GB RAM and 64GB UFS storage, while the more compact Radxa ROCK 5C credit card-sized SBC with a Rockchip RK3588 SoC and 4GB RAM goes for $59.90, so I’d expect the Radxa NIO 5A to be around $70 with 4GB LPDDR5 and no storage. Only time will tell.

Thanks to TLS for the photos!

    1. Seems like a small upgrade for the 510 mentioned on the collabora site.
      3 things are really different:

      • 6 instead of 4 A55 cores
      • faster mameory
      • a wifi 7 option?

It might need a new dtb, but the differences do not see to big. It might even run with a 510 dtb.
