New Android 4.0.4 Firmwares for Mele A1000 / A2000

Orange Pi Development Boards

Mele released a new firmware for the Mele A1000, A100 and A2000 Android media players. Here are the download page for Android 4.0 V1.1 (Thanks Fabricio & JP) and the changelog:

  1. Update to Android 4.0.4
  2. Fixed problem with Flash Player “black screen”
  3. Mouse speed can be set
  4. Option to turn on/off the background applications
  5. Allowed to set the font size
  6. Supports playback of DVD and Blu-Ray ISO files (Files mode)
  7. Multiple mouse devices can be used
  8. Full-screen playback of online video sources

I haven’t had time to try it myself yet, but some people did, and it fixed some of their issues (e.g.  HD multicast video streaming). Tip: Since the whole download process in in Chinese,  “下载” means “download” in Chinese. You’ll have to be patient because the download is slow right now (About 5KB/s on my side).

Kimdecent also informed me they’ve released a new firmware for the Mele A1000/A2000 with the following ChangeLog:

  1. Android version: Android 4.0.4
  2. more fluent Flash online video playing
  3. Can adjust the speed of mouse movement
  4. set up 3G data connection control
  5. speed up when browsing
  6. New Chromelite browser
  7. Optimize the OS, Faster in total.
  8. Support DVD & Blue-ray ISO format files.
  9. Support Multi access of Keyboard/Mouse etc.

This seems very similar, except the changelog explicitly mentions 3G support, and faster system performance. I’m not sure it’s exactly the same firmware as released by Mele or not.

If for some reasons, you don’t like the Mele Logo at boot time and/or reference to Mele in the firmware, you can install another version: http://www.kimdecent.com/drivers/57.html

You’ll have to register by email, or via your Facebook or Twitter account to download those files, but it’s currently much faster than the Mele website for me.

While they contacted me about the new firmware, Kimdecent also mentioned they have an Aliexpress shop where they sell Android set-top boxes among other things… Their prices are competitive, even after adding shipping costs. However, they only ship via courier such DHL, Fedex.. (no China Post or Hong Kong post), which may increase the custom and courier charges depending on the country where you live.

    Here is a mirror of the Mele Android 4 v1.1 on filepost, took a few hours to get it yesterday.

    I think the kimdesent are modded firmwares based off the Mele ones. There is someone on the Mele forum doing modded firmware and there is CyanogenMod there too but I cant follow the instructions, there’s no simple img file for the Phoenix utility.

    The translated English instructions for CM9 on Mele are over here

    There are a few stores that use China post:
    http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/546571245-Mele-A2000-TV-box-Allwinner-A10-hackable-device-wholesalers.html

    & I think this one throws in the special adaptor needed for reflashing (USB-UART?)

    @Onebir
    Yes, you can get the debug board, It’s used to debug the kernel and u-boot, and may be handy with server image, when you don’t have display, but it’s not used for reflashing.

    Hey guys, I need to mention that you’ll need the PhoenixCard 3.0.6 on Windows 7, I’ve tested the weekend with the old PhoenixCard 3.0.3 and it just don’t work (The led keeps flashing forever). You can grab the PhoenixCard 3.0.6 over the Lundman site.
    Thanks!

    I’m not getting the correct surround channels on my stereo speakers over SPDIF… it sounds like the rear L and the rear R. This was working fine in the beta ICS release. Any ideas?

    @JP
    download firmware from mele.cn (rar )- and you will find all what you need.

  8. August 14th, 2012 at 09:57 | #8

    @Jalette
    Which of the firmware above did you use?

  9. August 14th, 2012 at 09:58 | #9

    @Alexufo
    So you need to download “Kimdecent” firmware to get adb, and “Mele.cn” firmware to get the Phoenix Utility? Great…

    @cnxsoft
    Well, inside the official mele.cn update comes the PhoenixCard 303 not the 306 version. Thats why I said go to lundman site http://www.lundman.net/wiki/index.php/MeLe_A2000 …. the PhoenixCard 303 + the last update + windows 7 = just a mess.

    @cnxsoft
    I used firmware from official site ( mele.cn): USB debugging: version 1.6 – has only USB mass storage. version 4.0 has nothing. ADB didnt work with official firmware.

    Timely, I just got one on the weekend. What a pain with that phoenix card crap is though – if you use linux.

    The launcher has changed. The device id in the market changed too.

    Biggest pluses: you can see the mouse pointer much more easily, and the video player fills the screen.

    If you have trouble to play audio, download this: https://anonfiles.com/file/e5bf7c05c680006d81fbccefb79fc713
    uncompress it on the sd card and in MX Player on configuration>Codecs>Custom codecs point to the “libavcodec.so” file. Set sw audio.
