The WisGate Connect for MIOTY is an industrial-grade hybrid IoT gateway with support for both MIOTY and LoRaWAN protocols. Built around the RAK7391 carrier board for Raspberry Pi CM4, it is designed for long-range IoT applications, including intelligent street lighting, waste management, environmental monitoring, and traffic flow control. In addition to dual-protocol (MIOTY and LoRaWAN) support, it features USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and a USB-C port for flashing, an HDMI output, and a UART header for debugging. Backhaul options include Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or an optional 4G LTE module. The gateway can be powered in two ways: a wide input voltage DC jack or terminal block, or optional PoE+. We first wrote about the MIOTY Standard back in April 2020. After that, in September 2021, we saw Silicon Labs introduce EFR32FG23 (FG23) and EFR32ZG23 (ZG23) SoCs with MIOTY support, but it’s been a while since we’ve covered products built around this standard. Airgain introduces plug-and-play NimbeLink Skywire Cat 1bis embedded modem for industrial IoT applications
Airgain has recently launched the pre-certified NimbeLink Skywire Cat 1bis Embedded Modem, which it claims is the “industry’s first plug-and-play Cat 1bis modem for end-application use in industrial IoT”. We’ve already seen several Cat 1bis modules for industrial IoT applications such as the u-blox SARA-R10001DE and Cavli C17QS, among others. What Airgain highlights here is its module’s plug-and-play ability through the Skywire interface (two headers), while other modules typically need to be soldered on the PCB. Airgain NimbeLink Skywire Cat 1bis modem specifications: Based on Quectel EG916Q-GL module Cellular 4G LTE Bands LTE-FDD: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B13, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, B28, B66 LTE-TDD: B34, B38, B39, B40, B41 SIM card Micro (3FF) SIM slot Verizon MFF2 SIM Data rates – Up to 10 Mbps downlink and 5 Mbps uplink Variants North America (TC1bisNAG model) – AT&T, Bell, Rogers, Telus, Verizon networks Worldwide (QC1bisWWG […]
$2 development board features Puya PY32F030 Cortex-M0+ MCU with 64KB Flash, 8KB RAM
The Puya PY32F030 core board is a low-cost industrial development board based on the 48 MHz PY32F030K28T6 Arm Cortex-M0+ MCU, featuring 64KB flash and 8KB RAM, and capable of operating in a wide temperature range of -40°C to 105°C. It supports USB, SPI, I2C, UART, and I2S interfaces, and is designed for applications such as IoT, robotics, and automation in harsh environments. We have written about various low-cost MCUs over the past. Back in 2019, we wrote about the Padauk PMS150C, a 3-cent 8-bit MCU with 64 bytes of RAM, up to 6 I/Os, PWM, and basic peripherals. Then in 2022, the WCH CH32V003 made headlines with a 32-bit RISC-V core, 2KB SRAM, 16KB flash, and a 10-cent price tag. After that, in 2023, we discovered the Puya PY32 series of MCUs. It was an 8-cent MCU with an Arm Cortex-M0+ core, 32KB flash, and 4KB RAM, and was found […]
The Future of Asset Tracking: IoT at Scale with LTE-M technology
CNXSoft: This is a guest post by Ohad Peled, Product Marketing Manager at Sony Semiconductor Israel, about the challenges of tracking a large number of IoT assets and how LTE-M can help businesses scale tracking solutions. Over the last few years, asset tracking has emerged as a critical business function and is estimated to grow to a $34.5B market by 2032, according to Custom Market Insights. Whether businesses are monitoring a global supply chain or keeping tabs on expensive equipment, knowing where assets are at all times is essential. It enables businesses to optimize supply chains, prevent theft, and reduce operational downtime. There are several technical and commercial challenges in deploying such a solution, which could result in failure to deliver the promised value. Some solutions struggle to maintain accurate tracking as assets move within or across different facilities, especially if they go through an indoor environment. Others suffer from […]
