Intel Launches Core i3/i5 Penta-Core Lakefield Hybrid Processors

Intel unveiled plans for Lakefield Hybrid processors last year which combined a high-performance Sunny Cove core with four low-power Atom cores using Foveros 3D stacking technology and offering high peak single-thread performance and low power consumption for most tasks in a similar way to Arm’s big.LITTLE or DynamIQ technology. The company has now launched the first two penta-core Lakefield hybrid processors with Core i5-L16G7 and Core i3-L13G4 processors both with a 7W SDP (Scenario Design Power), but no TDP number which makes sense considering the Hybrid nature of the processor. NexDock Touch Laptop Shell Features a Touchscreen Display, an Optional Magnetic Mount for Your Phone

NexDock is a Motorola Lapdock alternative launched in 2016 with a 14.1″ non-touch display, a built-in battery, and a Bluetooth keyboard. It was followed by NexDock 2 last year with a Full HD display and a USB-C port. AMD Ryzen C7, an Arm Cortex-X1/A78/A55 Processor with MediaTek 5G Modem? (Leak)

Arm just announced Cortex-A78 and Cortex-X1 CPU cores last week, and we should expect several silicon vendors to announce new SoCs based on the new cores by the end of the year. But AMD? Yes, according to a now-deleted leak from Slashleaks that lives on Twitter. Intel Launches 15W to 125W Comet Lake VPro Processors for Enterprise Customers

Last week, we covered AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 processors with 15W TDP targeting ultra-thin business laptops with PRO features such as security, manageability, reliability, and longevity which are needed by enterprise customers. AMD compared the performance of their new processors to Intel Comet Lake processors without PRO features, but Intel has now just announced several Comet Lake processors with Intel VPro, including three 15W parts aims at the same markets as AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 processors. MNT Reform Open Source Hardware Laptop Launched for $999 and Up (Crowdfunding)

MNT Reform DIY Arm Linux laptop has been in the works at least since 2017. The open source hardware laptop is also fully modular with Boundary Devices Nitrogen8M SoM featuring NXP i.MX 8M quad-core Cortex-A53 processor and 4GB RAM, M.2 NVMe SSD storage, and standard, replaceable 18650 batteries. The good news is the laptop is now almost ready for prime-time and has been launched on Crowd Supply with price starting at $999 in DIY kit form without storage, and $1,300 for a complete, assembled system with 256GB NVMe storage. AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 Processors Launched for Ultra-thin Business Laptops

AMD announced 15W to 45W mobile processors at CES 2020 with AMD Ryzen 4000-U series processors designed for ultra-thin laptops. The company has now unveiled AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 series mobile processors for business customers requiring features usually found in Intel vPro processor with AMD PRO Technologies including improved security, manageability, reliability, and longevity with at least 24-months of planned availability. NANOTE 7″ 2-in-1 Mini Laptop with Intel Atom X5 Processor to Launch for $185 in Japan

Mini laptops have been a thing for the last 2 or 3 years thanks to companies such as GPD and OneNote. However, most of the models rely on fairly powerful and expensive low-power processors from Comet Lake and Amber Lake families, and that may be fine if you want a versatile, ultra-portable machine as your main driver, but not everybody wants to spend $700-$1,000 on this type of device. In the recent past, we’ve seen a couple of cheaper Intel Cherry Trail mini laptops such as Pretech F700mi and Peakago. But the former does not appear to be for sale, and the latter was offered for $269 and the company decided to upgrade it to an Intel Celeron N4100 processor. The Cosmo Communicator The Cosmo Communicator was released as a crowdfunded handheld device mixing smartphone and a small laptop features such as keyboard and display.
